Will Cameron Diaz join the dark Muppets for The Happytime Murders?

11.09.2010

Is there a reason that Cameron Diaz is still offered roles?

I don't have the answers, but I do have news that Diaz was offered a role in the dark Muppet movie THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS. Her people are apparently very excited to read the script.

HAPPYTIME MURDERS centers on a world where human and Muppets co-exist. However this world is obviously not very happy. The film, "takes place in a world where humans and puppets co-exist, with the puppets viewed as second-class citizens. When the puppet cast of an ’80s children’s TV show called “The Happytime Gang” begins to get murdered one by one, a disgraced LAPD detective-turned-private eye puppet — with a drinking problem, no less — takes on the case with his former human partner. Think “Avenue Q” meets “L.A. Confidential.”' The idea came from Jim Henson's son, Brian who is also the co-chairman of the Henson Company. Regardless of whether or not Diaz accepts the role, Brian will helm the film.

The insider that provided the news to Vulture also states that, "This is definitely not a PG-13 movie. They’re not fucking around with this: It’s 'Go big or go home.'" Vulture revealed one of the scenes from the film to illustrate how crazy this thing is going to get: "One scene has a character opening the wrong door at the "Puppet Pleasureland," and finding a cow puppet on a massage table having all of its teats milked by an octopus puppet. Reads the stage direction: "The cow MOOS in ecstasy. MILK is just SQUIRTING EVERYWHERE."

Bert, I'm scared.

Extra Tidbit: THE DARK CRYSTAL is pretty crazy. It's an awesome movie, but it creeped the hell out of me when I was little. Was anyone else slightly terrified of it?

As SoundGirl said below, I was terrified of nearly every film that came out in the 1980s. The NeverEnding Story, The Secret of NIMH, Masters of the Universe, Labyrinth, even Ghostbusters. Don't get me wrong, I loved them all and watched them constantly, but I used to hide behind the couch every time the Gmork from NeverEnding Story came on screen, or when Zuul appeared in Ghostbusters. Just terrifying shit for a child.

Still, you can bet your ass I'm going to show them to my children one day.

Tidbit:
I'm slightly terrified of a whole number of 1980's children's movies. Shit was just a whole lot scarier back then.

"Crayons taste like purple." Reminds me a bit of Greg The Bunny. But I'm a sucker for puppets so count me intrigued.

Muppet boob-age?

So if this is PG 13 is Cameron going to be shaking her ass and showing her boobs? Or are they going to leave that to the muppets?

Warren the Ape?

yeah... this premise has potential if you've seen the show. there's something about a cute little puppet (like Greg the Bunny) getting cursed at that is always hilarious.
