Will Donnie Yen be lending his patented punches to the cast of The Expendables 2?

Hong Kong sensation Donnie Yen (IP MAN 1 & 2) is no stranger to the art of introducing fists to faces. Will that magnificent talent be put to use in the second action hero man-fest that is THE EXPENDABLES 2?

According to Hong Kong newspapers (via Twitch), maybe! Yen was on holiday in the United States recently where he attended a dinner with EXPENDABLES producer Avi Lerner. Reportedly, Lerner made an offer to the filmmaker/martial artist to play a “tailor-made” part in the upcoming sequel. Yen’s people have since confirmed that an offer was made, saying “that Yen may be interested in THE EXPENDABLES, but because he currently has a number of projects to choose from, he will not decide until he sees if the script appeals to him or not.”

As Twitch notes, Yen has been around kicking ass for some time, even in Hollywood itself (SHANGHAI KNIGHTS, BLADE II), but a memorable role in a mantastic sequel opposite 80s, 90s, and 00s action icons could catapult him into a new tier of fame. Question is: does he want that?

THE EXPENDABLES 2 – from director Simon West, starring Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Dolph Lundgren and possibly Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, and John Travolta – will begin production in October with a release currently set for August 17, 2012.
