Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis shake hands in the first look at The Campaign

Mar. 23, 2012by: Niki Stephens

One of my favorite parts of the Oscars this year was Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis coming out on stage dropping cymbals. It wasn't wildly hilarious, but it was one of the better parts in an otherwise dull evening. Oh, and the part where the guy who played Kip in ORANGE COUNTY received an award for best adapted screenplay. Do you remember his conversation with Schuyler Fisk in the movie? "I want to be a writer. Fiction, poetry, screenplays, whatever. I have an idea for a TV show. It's about vampires...ostensibly. But, underneath, it's actually about the reunification of Germany." While he's probably nothing like that, it's funny to reflect on.

On to the subject at hand, we have our first look at Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis in THE CAMPAIGN. The film directed by Jay Roach, "centers on two rival North Carolina politicians with presidential aspirations who tangle with one another." Jason Sudeikis, Dylan McDermott, Brian Cox, John Lithgow and Dan Aykroyd also star.

THE CAMPAIGN is due out a few months before the U.S. presidential election on August 10th.

Check out the photo below.

There's something different about Galifianakis here...but I just can't put a finger on it...

Just what we need, Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis giving us more of their asinine political views masked as a comedy. NO THANKS.

Okay, this is the first I've heard they set this in North Carolina. Which is great, but how did I miss it? I guess sooner or later Galifianakis was gonna make a movie in his home state. Having Jay Roach make a political comedy after his HBO work gives me hope too. And damn does Will look like John Edwards in that photo. I for one am thrilled at the attention my home state is getting of late. "The Hunger Games," "Iron Man 3," etc.

Jay Roach really likes making political films - I'm glad this is a comedic take. I love Zach's expression in the picture, and the awkward moustache.

On that photo alone, I'm in. Will Ferrell is looking very typical, I picture him as the bossy know-it-all like he is in East Bound and Down. While Zach Galifinakis is looking like the bewildered dark horse candidate who will be the butt of all Will's jokes. Can't wait to see how this turns out.

North Carolina

Looks funny, but is it just me, or is North Carolina becoming the setting of a lot more movies/tv shows? Really seems that way...

Whats the deal? Tax incentives? Wilmington getting bigger?
