Will Ferrell carries his crap down the street in this poster for Everything Must Go

03.30.2011

I haven't heard anything from EVERYTHING MUST GO since last August. Now there's a poster and word that it will be released in May.

I'll pretty much watch anything with Will Ferrell. I've seen many complaints on the net of people saying that they are tired of him, but I'm not. In this dark comedy, Ferrell plays a guy who basically loses his job and his wife and holds a yard sale with this shit his ex dumped on the lawn. The film played at TIFF last year and I've heard only good things.

Synopsis:

"Nicolas Halsey (Will Ferrell) is not having a good day. Not only has he been fired from his sales-manager job of sixteen years, but he returns home to find the locks changed and his belongings strewn outside, the spoils of his failed marriage scattered across the lawn for all the world to see. So starts Everything Must Go, a wryly humorous drama starring Ferrell, which examines five endless days in the life of a man who believes he has lost everything. Deciding to both fight and give up, Nick appropriates the object-laden lawn as his living room; he stations himself in a recliner and entertains himself with neighbour-watching, while steadily chipping away at his six-month sobriety. When the police show up to shut down the illicit spectacle, he invokes a legal loophole that buys him four more days of lawn-time: residents of Plano, Texas are permitted to hold private yard sales for a maximum of five consecutive days."

Its rare..

any comic actor can flip the switch and play dramatic, its rare when they can do it well. Will did it first with Stranger than Fiction and I think he can do it with this one. The movie will probably fall under the radar, but I think it will play well for Will.

This poster does not bode well

They released that photo of him a few months ago and it's literally the only thing anybody has seen from this film. The screenplay is fantastic- reads like a novel. It's a wonderful script, but there's no telling how they've translated it onto film or what tone they're going for.

I am *not* a bum. I'm a jerk. I once had wealth, power, and the love of a beautiful woman. Now I only have two things: my friends, and... uh... my thermos. Huh? My story? Okay. It was never easy for me. I was born a poor black child. I remember the days, sittin' on the porch with my family, singin' and dancin' down in Mississippi...

I wouldn't call this a dark comedy. It's closer to a drama with some comedic touches to leaven the mood.

This film is good, solid storytelling but also conventional to a T and never elevates itself above that category. I don't have any particular complaints about the film - and Ferrell is certainly good in it - but I would have liked the script to let loose and show a little more originality than it does.

Sounds good, actually. I like Ferrell a lot, but I think he's kind of been playing the same type of character in most of his movies.

The original Carver short story was brilliant, as was most of his work (like Altman's Short Cuts). I really hope this is good, as Ferrell can be good in more serious fare.

I'm really excited for this. I am a fan of Ferrell and love indie movies.

It will be interesting to see Ferrell in a more "down to earth" role in a low budget movie.
