Will Ferrell is going to help Steve Carell leave The Office

01.26.2011

It's not quite the much-demanded ANCHORMAN sequel, but former newsmen Will Ferrell and Steve Carell will be reuniting on the small screen. (Let's just all forget their previous reunion BEWITCHED, huh?)

As Carell cleans off his desk and prepares to exit "The Office", Ferrell plans to stop by NBC's cubicle cringe-comedy and help him out the door.

Ferrell will show up in a 4-episode arc as the season winds down, playing a branch manager from the home office who turns out to be as clueless as Carell's Michael Scott. Seems logical.

"The Office" exec producer Paul Lieberstein had this to say: "We found Steve Carell when he was nothing but a movie star and we turned him into a television star. We are proud to continue The Office‘s tradition of discovering famous talent, and we hope that once America gets a good look at Will, they’ll see what we see: tremendous raw sexuality."

Extra Tidbit: Any fans of "The Office" think it'll hold up after Carell departs Dunder Mifflin?

At least Ricky Gervais knows when to end a series that he's starring in; Extras and The Office are great and ended with people wanting more, not begging for it to end already.

I love The Office, and I hate to see Michael Scott leave. Then again, I can't wait to see Will Ferrell in it!

The Office and SNL are neck and neck in terms of which is harder to watch.

I'd imagine it's probably worse for the cast and crew. They've got to know they've been beating a dead horse for a good 4 seasons now.

This is the problem with how we treat some IP's here in the states. Milk it until it's nothing like what it started out to be, then just replace the only good part of it that's left (Carrell) and milk it some more.

Good riddance, Office. You haven't been funny in a long time.

I think the show will still be great, because there are so many different characters they can work with. Will be on maybe 2 or 3 more seasons.

I'm not sure it will have much momentum after Steve leaves. I give it a season or maybe two

I SO hip to this news! I can't wait to see who they get to replace Steve, I liked the ida of Marty from Flight of the Choncords (can't remember actor name but he's brilliant) Office has never been bad, stale or even "off," best show on tv :D

I've been die hard since the premire of episode 1

For me The Office has always been about the office and everyone in it, not just Micheal Scott. Yeah, he's the boss and the lead character but that room is chock full of unique and hilarious personalities. I think the show will do just fine without Micheal Scott. In fact, i think it could actually help. Ive never had issues with the show until the first half of the current season when Micheal's selfishness went a little overboard. He's always been bullheaded and self-centered but there was

He's always been bullheaded and self-centered but there was always a glimmer of a decent guy underneath it all. This season he just started coming off as a prick and the loveable quality wasnt there. All in all it will of course be sad to see him go, and i hope as the season winds down they find a way to send him off in an honorable fashion. Its time to bring some of the smaller characters to the forefront for a couple seasons. I have the utmost faith in the post-Micheal Scott era.

Now if only they got Paul Rudd to cameo in some way, and bring back David Koechner's Todd character, it'd be like an Anchorman mini-reunion! And they would all sing "Afternoon Delight" too! Now that'd be a good way to send Michael off! But The Office probably won't last long after this season, good thing the far superior (in my opinion anyway) Parks & Recreation will easily fill that vacancy!

The show should be over by next year anyway.

Steve is extremely smart to be leaving. Except for a few exceptional episodes in season 6 & 1 or 2 this year, the show is getting stale fast. I bet the show goes maybe one more year unless they can get a really good replacement for Steve. Let's face it, if it weren't for Steve it's doubtful this who would have made it at all. Nothing against the supporting cast, but w/out him we wouldn't know who any of these people are. John Krasinski especially needs to kiss up to him. Let's face it

It seems just about every show but especially comedies should only have a lifespan no longer than 7 years.

Could be surprising...

The character that really stole the show in key episodes was Dwight. He killed on both the Wedding and the Birth episode. So its possible that as long as here's there it'll still be worth watching. And just give me some more Kevin and Creed.

I can't see The Office without Carell

I sadly believe that this will have the scrubs effect, just not as bad. We spent years knowing and loving these characters, watching them grow. And to now see a huge character leave, Michael freakin Scott out of all people, and have someone else try to fill his shoes is a big pill to swallow. it is either going to be a "eh" change, or crash and burn in my opinion

Scrubs without J.D. wasn't the greatest, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Some of the new characters were worthy replacements.

Tough to say

After 7 seasons it's going to be hard to see a classic character like Michael Scott go, however, I do think "The Office" will survive without him with help from it's amazing cast of characters (Kevin, Creed, Darryl, Oscar, and Andy alone could carry a spinoff), plus add the extreme likability of it's other stars (Jim, Dwight, Pam) plus the introduction of new characters, All in all, I think the show will still be funny, but never the same without Carell.

As for Ferrell being on the office,

As for Ferrell being on the office, YES! YES! Now all they need is Todd Packer and it's pretty much an anchorman reunion.

Extra Tidbit

I don't have much hope for the show after Carell leaves. Its clear the writers don't know what to do with Jim and Pam now that they've married and have a kid, it would make more sense for them to leave. I give it 2 seasons tops after Carell leaves. As long as I have Community and 30 Rock, I'll be happy on Thursday nights.

I have been a die hard fan of The Office ever since the beginning and think that Ferrell guest starring is an exciting, good idea. I'm sure him and Michael Scott will have alot of interesting and funny conversations.

I would still love to see Ricky Gervais have a guest spot on the show for a couple of episodes.
