Will it be Men in Black 3 or The City That Sailed for Will Smith?

We haven’t actually seen superstar Will Smith on the big screen since 2008’s SEVEN POUNDS. If you’ve seen it, then you might understand why (i.e. it was terrible).

But now, Big Willie’s bobbin’ and weavin’ around two projects, one of which will apparently be his next: A return to the franchise that helped catapult him into stardom with MEN IN BLACK 3, or the Andrew Niccol (THE TRUMAN SHOW, GATTACA) -penned THE CITY THAT SAILED.

According to Variety, THE CITY THAT SAILED “revolves around a New York street magician who is unhappily separated from his young daughter. The girl, who moves to London, finds magic candles that make her wishes comes true, with unintended consequences: The island of Manhattan separates from the continent and floats toward England, bringing her dad ever closer.” Smith’s I AM LEGEND director Francis Lawrence was originally attached to direct, but that apparently is no longer the case as Variety says no one is currently on the film.

Meanwhile, with MEN IN BLACK 3, there seems to be no director, no writer, no info… nothing! I loved MEN IN BLACK, a tremendously fun sci-fi comedy with great characters and performances. Then there was MEN IN BLACK 2, a film that was, frankly, a piece of shit. Both films, however, made tons of money globally. MIB raked in just under $590 million while MIB2 brought in just over $440 million. I guess the question should really be, “Does Smith opt for the easy buck or not?”
