Will James Cameron's love affair with Avatar bear three more children instead of a mere two?

3 years agoby:

Avatar bow lesson

We've heard plenty of bits and pieces over the last few years from James Cameron regarding his two planned sequels to AVATAR, including how they'll shoot back to back and will focus on the ocean ecology of Pandora.  So the fact that AVATAR 2 and AVATAR 3 are coming isn't really news at this point.  What is news, provided its not some sort of misprint, is the revelation that Cameron will actually be filming AVATAR 2, 3, and 4 all back to back.

"When [her new series] 'Political Animals' finishes shooting, see if you can follow Weaver’s schedule: she goes right into a new Christopher Durang play for a short run at Lincoln Center. Then she films 'Avatar' 2, 3, and 4 with James Cameron. That’s right: they’re making three sequels to the blue 3D phenom all at the same time. Weaver says she has no idea how long it will take, or how it’s going to work. 'I just show up,' she said."

The bigger and much more important question is: will you show up?

Just imagine if he'd be THIS MUCH excited about a world he created after TERMINATOR 2 became a similiar blockbuster....3 MORE sequels of T2 from James Cameron....aahaa... (sigh)

As for AVATAR, I'll wait to watch the first sequel, before actually give a fuck about a THIRD sequel.

I'll wait for the dvd.

I just hope it wont be 3hr faux-documentary focusing only on the ocean side of things complete with Jake's sleepy-narration style.

I bet the twist will be Giovanni Ribisi NEVER left the planet and had set up an underwater base and continued his (off-shore) mining which will set up an action-sequence of submarines Vs Navi's riding on whales!

As for the fourth one.. *bleh* Jake's kid (It will happen somehow) has grown up and decides to visit his dad's planet (xenophobia/racism references

I thought Avatar was BAD when I first saw it in IMAX, but after seeing it on blu-ray it's even worst (not the fx or anything technical per se, just the whole movie itself).
What a stinker! Not getting my money. And even though I do not like the movie (thus no interest in the other 3), I do not think those will have the same impact at the box office as the first one had.

Three sequels?

Really? Well, if that's what he wants, more power to him. I'll wait for DVD.

can't wait

and while it has it's haters (most of them internet folk) the vast, vast majority of people loved Avatar, the characters and the world and are probably very excited by this news. I'm looking forward to it, it's a daunting task but I think and hope he can pull it off!

Avatar was entertaining, if nothing else. I'll see the sequels. Even if the plot was underwhelming, Cameron is still more reliable than a lot of directors. I'd be more excited if Cameron actually talked about the story he had planned for the sequels, instead of the scenery/CGI he wants to show us. I feel like he's more interested in creating a 3D Demo reel than a film with a plot.

ABSOLUTE AWESOMENESS!

Yes I am hip to this, and yes I will show up to all 3, twice! Can't wait. let the haters hate. Let the people who talk about original stories forget the idea that 99% of all fiction and storytelling, especially in movies, derives itself from the Greeks and Romans and the beginnings of theater. Let the whiners complain while Cameron makes millions and I enjoy them in all their awesomeness!

Bah

So is Sully going to tame a giant Dolphin to become King under the Sea or something. Why would the same characters from the first movie even be involved in the undersea life of Pandora, except maybe to eat it.
All I can say is that I hope he uses some of the billions to actually write a story this time, maybe hire a few writers with some good ideas before filming starts.

It doesn't really matter how many sequels are rumored, remember he said his entire life from now on is Avatar, so expect

I don't want to be negative, but...

while I enjoyed the hell out of Avatar, I really don't care about a sequel. James Cameron would have to come up with one hell of a story to make a sequel interesting. I know Cameron is more than capable of writing great scripts (Aliens, The Abyss, & Strange Days are some of the best screenplays to come out of Hollywood), but will Cameron be daring enough story-wise to leave behind the overdone "clash of culture" formulas? He would really have to move the story in a new direction to spark any

I give this a green because it is possible to do something more interesting with the universe Cameron created. Though a huge part of me feels like he will play things safe like with the first one, and no one wants more of the same.

Why is he even bothering with Weaver's character? Is she a tree now?

I'll show up for all 3!

When they replace Sam Worthington with Robert Downey Jr. Cameron is a fantastic director and I could forgive the cliche story if they had a lead actor who had even a little charisma.

This sucks to be honest, especially because Jim is too good to make three sequels to a mediocre story. Okay, I don't think that Avatar was bad, it was beautiful to look at, but seeing it once was definitely enough and the visuals got old even during the film itself. I don't want to follow the story of these characters whatsover. I just think that the other reason to make the sequels, except for easy money, is to show off CGI designs of planets and oceans creating a plot around it, instead of

As this is happening and there's no stopping Cameron, I just hope they can come up with more original and alien designs this time around.

Avatar 2 and 3 are okay. But with Avatar 4 in mind, it seems a bit overkill.

When is a Sequel Not-a-sequel?

4 will be a prequel. You heard it 'hear' first.

Money talks

At least one or two of the three sequels will lack in quality.
