Will Michael Fassbender take on the Templars in an Assassin's Creed movie?

This is... whoa. This woke me up far more than coffee, tea, or a bushel of apples ever could. This blows my mind if it is actually happening.  Before we go on, as there's far too much to sum up with what ASSASSIN'S CREED is about exactly, you can answer any and all questions here.

Now: Michael Fassbender is currently being named as the man producing and starring in Ubisoft's long gestating big screen adaptation of Ubisoft's ridiculously good and high-selling series.  It seems that Fassbender, along with being the best part of a certain film released recently, has also spent the better part of this past year building a production company called DMC Film.  After backing a short called PITCH BLACK HEIST, Fassbender and DMC Film have decided to swiftly step into the ring with ASSASSIN'S CREED being the company's first big project.  This is probably a very good idea, as no matter what the quality of the end product may be an ASSASSIN'S CREED project is going to make bank and then some considering how the franchise as a whole has sold over thirty million units since 2007.

Assassin's Creed assassination

Hopefully it actually is good though. Once upon a time Sony was set to work with Ubisoft in bringing the centuries-long war between Assassins and Templars to life, but now Ubisoft has expressed interest in packaging a writer and director with the project before taking it again to Sony (or other studios).  Other financial questions are also being explored in the meantime, ones such as whether money might be saved by having several of the in-house studios handle the necessary visual effects.

There was some dismay expressed in Hollywood last fall about the amount of control that Ubisoft was demanding for the ASSASSIN'S CREED franchise, but I'm all for it.  It's true that Microsoft's demand for such control is what brought HALO crashing down, but Ubisoft looks to be going about things in a more controlled and sensible manner such as raising money via co-production deals and foreign presales.  And having a talented bastard such as Michael Fassbender on board certainly can only better inspire Ubisoft to do right by this opportunity, so that's encouraging.

Ubisoft also recently launched a company called UMP (Ubisoft Motion Pictures) that is lead by Jean-Julien Baronnet, former CEO of EuropaCorp (Luc Besson's production company), which has been built with the specific intention of helping shepherd movies based on Ubisoft's games into existence. SPLINTER CELL and GHOST RECON are already on the hopeful docket for the studio, but is there anything else you'd really like to see Ubisoft translate to the big screen?

Kristen Bell in a gold dress

When you hear the voice of Lucy Stillman in an Assassin's Creed game, you're hearing Kristen Bell.

Extra Tidbit: "Michael Fassbender was our first choice" said Baronnet. "Michael (Fassbender) is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor." And if Fassbender is playing Desmond Miles, which seems to be the only real choice if he's taking a starring role, I'm all the more curious as to who would be found for the various assassins.

Fassbender rocks.

If this is true and Fassbender is the main character, this movie will be the most successful video game to movie adaptions ever made. I wouldn't care how far from the games story it strayed, I would pay $13 to see him on screen for 2+ hours killing people.

Kristen Bell as Lucy

Can we just get her as Lucy Stillman? It would only make sense.

I don't blame Ubisoft for wanting more control over the movie based on their property. With the stink that was Prince of Persia, I'm sure they learned their lesson on what to expect with movie studios abusing the source material.

Also, it is possible for Fassbender to play both Desmond and Altair, since they are ancestral relatives and Altair is cloaked the entire game anyway.

Seriously...

Can this man NOT get any cooler?

Ubisoft is definitely taking a page from the Marvel script: Own your shit all the way.

I wonder who they're approaching to direct. With this recent news of Fassbender, Ridley Scott came to my mind. I know he's busy and all and this project is probably beneath him, but considering he can do sci-fi and historic films almost like no other, it's a no-brainer since the games involve both genres.

Did you actually see Prometheus? Probably the biggest disappointment and worst event film this year. If he wants to ruin Blade Runner (as he now seems to be in the business of ruining everything good he's once done) be my guest. But please keep him away from this, the man has obviously lost his touch for film making.

I'd pick Gore Verbinski if I had to choose. The man's got a good eye for visuals and he also loves big, wide shots. This means he'll bring the world of Assassin's Creed to the big screen in an epic way. Imagine what he can do with the kind of architecture from the games. Plus, the man knows how to plot action scenes and is pretty good with dialogue. Rango was awesome in that department.

Gore Verbinski is definitely a great choice. I'll throw in Marc Webb for all his Amazing Spiderman goodness and knack for dialogue as well.

I really thought a Assassin's Creed movie could never work. And then Michael f**king' Fassbender came along. Now the movie's on my most-anticipated list.

This is one of those "If it's too good to be true, it probably isn't." type of scenarios. With that said, I hope this actually comes into fruition because Fassbender would bring a lot of talent to the project. I'm not getting my hopes up though and see how this plays out.

Jaqen H'ghar

Why not pick Tom Wlaschiha to play the character if Michael Fassbender ends up not doing it (or hell, even he would probably be a better pick for the character in my opinion)? I swear, every time I watched Game of Thrones and saw him play Jaqen H'gar, I saw Desmond Miles and his ancestors kicking some ass.

Wow

...I don't even know what to say. This is a truly inspired choice and hopefully it works out because that would be awesome!

By the way, if they want to do it right and build a proper frachise, not so sure we should be introduced to both Altair and Ezio in the first movie. Subject 16 could also be good way to start the franchise off and with that in mind, what are the chances that Michael Fassbender is playing subject 16?

Given that Ezio and Altair are Desomonds ancestors, couldnt he just play all three characters would certainly save money on recruiting another two actors its a proper win-win moment for all!

Fassbender is a German-Irish guy why wouldn't they cast an italian? Plus Fassbender doesn't come across as an agile death dealing assasin sprinting across the rooftops. I think they could find someone better.
