Will Rhodey and a new Jarvis appear in The Avengers: Age of Ultron?

Dec. 12, 2013by: Alex Maidy

THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON is still far enough away that the main cast haven't read the script yet, but tidbits continue to leak regarding characters that will be appearing in the highly anticipated sequel. With the plot looking to center on Tony Stark creating Ultron and then needing to team with The Avengers to stop his creation, there is a good likelihood that some IRON MAN alumni will appear in the film.

Bleeding Cool has gotten the scoop on a pair of IRON MAN characters that may figure into THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. The first one is Don Cheadle as War Machine himself, James Rhodes. Rhodey has figured prominently in all three IRON MAN movies and with Tony Stark giving up his armor at the end of IRON MAN 3, it is not outside the realm of reason to think that War Machine may have taken his place as a member of the team. We never saw the armor destroyed so that is a possibility.

The other casting is Simon McBurney who the site claims is playing Jarvis in the new film. Now, I said Jarvis and not J.A.R.V.I.S., so that role still seems to belong to Paul Bettany. The theory is that McBurney is playing an actual human named Jarvis, possibly Stark's butler or the inspiration for his computer counterpart.

All we know is that Joss Whedon is throwing everything at THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON now that he has most of his cast in place. With new actors Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and James Spader aboard alongside Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, and Scarlett Johannson, the whole gang looks ready to kick some ass when the movie hits screens on May 1, 2015.

I'm guessing you mean Tim Curry or were you making a witty reference to some past movie Curry might have done? I was always one to miss a joke...and then there'd be awkward silence :o)

The article didn't say anything about killing Rhodey, but one could only hope. As much as I love Cheadle, his portrayal of Rhodey is awful and the actual death of one of these characters would help push the story forward quite well.

It'll be cool to see War Machine in this. Hopefully Falcon appears in the film as well. They're two cool characters I hope we see more of.

But like what others said below, I could see Whedon killing off Rhodey just to drive Tony even more in the film.

I like Fan of Film's suggestion. It would be nice to see a semi key character die...and for the death to have real meaning. Whedon's Buffy and Angel did this several times...each death was really felt (Doyles death in Angel season 1 stands out for the fact I didn't know it was coming...and that comical advert he was part of in the first few minutes of that episode when replayed at the end bought out completely different emotions the second time). I finally got to see Fast and the Furious

I finally got to see Fast and the Furious 6...and that cinematic universe knows how to make character deaths really heartfelt (awesome movie by the way). Coulson's death was brilliantly done in the Avengers but the impact has lessened quite considerably because he's in Shield (and I stand by that...even if the guy in Shield turns out not to be the real son of Coul no matter how cool that story arc might turn out to be).

It certainly would be interesting to see a human Jarvis but I'm with Fan of Film, I think it would kinda clutter Age of Ultron to have War Machine play a significant role in it. I'm glad they didn't have Pepper in too much of The Avengers as it is.

Also.....

If War Machine really is in this movie, then I think Joss Wheedon is going to kill him off. Which will drive Tony nearly insane.

War Machine is a character that's moderately well known and liked but is not the type to appear in any other Avengers movie. And we all know Joss loves to kill off beloved characters.

I don't know, Tony Stark, while awesome, is too much the egotist to name something awesome after somebody else.

Although if they are just messing with us and it's really a new Jarvis computer maybe it's taking the place of its predecessor who is now the Ultron intelligence.
