Will Sasso confirmed as Curly in The Three Stooges, Hank Azaria and James Marsden up for the remaining knuckleheads?

I have no problem with Will Sasso, the now officially confirmed Stooge in Peter and Bobby Farrelly’s long-in-development THREE STOOGES feature film. But what about Hank Azaria and James Marsden, the latest names to be linked to the project? I think I’d be behind these guys too.

According to Deadline, after being the recent frontrunner for the part, Sasso has now officially signed on as the iconic ‘Curly Howard’. And now, funnyman Hank Azaria (THE SMURFS, “The Simpsons”) has reportedly emerged as the frontrunner for the part of Stooge leader ‘Moe Howard’. That could be great casting right there. But more interesting to me is that Deadline is saying that James Marsden (HOP, X-MEN) is the name most often coming up in regards to the casting of ‘Larry Fine’.

Now, before you roll your eyes at that choice, I highly recommend you check out SEX DRIVE. While that movie is a pretty decent teen sex comedy that flew under most people’s radars, James Marsden’s portrayal of the character ‘Rex’ COMPLETELY steals the show. It’s one of those really awesome comedic performances that make you rethink the capabilities of an actor (much like Alec Baldwin has down with this most recent stage of his career). On that alone, I’d say Marsden could be a potentially great pick. Those of you who have seen SEX DRIVE, would you agree?

THE THREE STOOGES will be divided into three 27-minute segments, will be aiming for a PG-rating, and will be according to Peter Farrelly, “more in the tone of Dumb and Dumber than anything else we’ve done.” The film is scheduled for release sometime in 2012.
