Will Warner Brothers save The Dark Tower?

We thought it was going to get made, then Universal decided it couldn’t commit to THE DARK TOWER.

It was a heavy load- three film installments and two television segments. Now it looks like Warner Brothers is thinking of stepping up. The studio bought the script by Akiva Goldsman (I AM LEGEND) and are paying him to polish it. Ron Howard is still set to direct possibly in the first part of 2013. This will also give Javier Bardem the chance to reattach himself to the lead role of Roland Deschain.

Last October, producer Brian Grazer stated that the television portion was getting set up over at HBO, which is the smartest move for the material. Movies would be awesome, but I really feel that this would make great TV as a full fledged series.

THE DARK TOWER centers on, “the last living member of a knightly order of gunslingers, with Deschain becoming humanity’s last hope to save civilization as he hits the road to find the Dark Tower. Along the way, he encounters characters, good and bad, in a world that has an Old West feel.”

If Warner Bros. decides to take on the project, do you think the studio will do it justice?
