Will we be getting a standalone Batman film in 2019?
Arguably the biggest shocker on DC's rumored slate of upcoming films was the absence of a standalone Batman film. There are not a lot of guaranteed money-makers within DC's line-up, so you'd think they'd want to get on that sooner rather than later. Regardless on the when, a Batman film is in the works, and we may even have a possible date and title.
"Inside sources" are claiming that 2019 is the year they're looking to debut the new Batman film, and a possible title may simply be, THE BATMAN. I don't think this comes as any great surprise, and if I were a betting man, I'd say that Affleck directing would be a viable option too. After all, why simply just cast the man who's responsible for directing two fantastic films (GONE BABY GONE, THE TOWN) and a recent Oscar winner (ARGO)? Affleck will soon be gearing up to write, direct and star in an adaptation of the Dennis Lehane novel, LIVE BY NIGHT, which currently has an October 7, 2016 release date. I imagine filming on that will commence after BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE has wrapped. With JUSTICE LEAGUE having a rumored release date of May 2017, that looks to follow LIVE BY NIGHT. Perhaps serious development on "THE BATMAN" may begin after that? Until then, I'm sure Batman will get plenty of screen time in both BATMAN V SUPERMAN and JUSTICE LEAGUE.
BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE will be the next film to feature the dark knight, on May 6, 2016.
