William Hurt eyes Stephenie Meyer’s The Host

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Well, it looks like Oscar-winner William Hurt is in talks to star in the adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s “The Host”.  As you probably know (but don’t care), “The Host” is her first new novel after “The Twilight Saga” wrapped up, and was pretty huge as well.

The synopsis of the book-

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of human hosts while leaving their bodies intact. Wanderer, the invading “soul” who has been given Melanie’s body, didn’t expect to find its former tenant refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

As Melanie fills Wanderer’s thoughts with visions of Jared, a human who still lives in hiding, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she’s never met. Reluctant allies, Wanderer and Melanie set off to search for the man they both love.

According to EW Hurt would play the pivotal role of Jeb, eccentric uncle to Saoirse Ronan’s Melanie Stryder, whose brain is hijacked by the soul of an alien being known as Wanderer. Jeb is one of the grizzled leaders of the human survivalists fighting the alien invasion.

Max Irons will play Jared Howe and Jake Abel is Ian, who form the other sides of the usual Meyer love triangle.

My one hope is that some of the people who go to pick up this film accidentally buys Bong Joon-ho’s THE HOST and are thrown off by subtitles and a badass Korean monster movie.
