Anybody interested in knowing what SCREAM 4 will be about? Me neither, but some people are, and this is for them.

Scribe Kevin Williamson, currently hard at work trying to finish the thing, is keeping the plot tight lipped but no enough for the folks of MTV who got a few tidbits on the upcoming sequel.

The fourth one is an ensemble. It'll take place right now, 10 years later, and it's going to take place in Sidney's hometown of Woodsboro," Williamson claimed. "We'll have our three main characters, and we'll be introducing several more."

All three? Neve is coming back for this? Poor girl... Anyway, he goes on to say the film will keep deconstructing the horror genre, and will play on the fact that they're milking this cow to no end. "I guess I'll just have to be very aware of the fact that we're a '4' and that we're beating a dead dog. I'm going to make that very apparent in the dialogue."

Thanks to Moviehole for the heads-up.

Extra Tidbit: Wonder if they'll keep the same slasher mask and cloak, or reboot with a new look for a new killer.

So they're going to hang a giant lampshade over a bunch of smaller lampshades...which are already hanging over other lampshades that were hung back when the idea was good, and winking at your audience wasn't an act of hopeless desperation.

Top the killers from the first one? Impossible. The killer in 3 was so annoying and so outlandish that it actually ended up being gratifying when Sydney finally shot him up.

No, we don't need another Scream movie. I don't particularly want another Scream movie. But the premise is hard to screw up, I'll admit. The fact that Scream self-consciously toys with the cliches of the horror franchises goes a long way. And they had the most likable cast of characters for a horror movie. I never did get past the part one. But really, did they ever manage to top those killers...

Don't Bring Back Dewey and Sid Just To Kill'em Off
I'm all for a new Scream trilogy so long as the original collaborators return both behind and in front of the camera. However, if Scream 4 plans to bring back Neve, David, and Courtney just as lubricant for a new cast and kills them off, count me out. Like it or not, any true successor to the original Scream series must incorporate these three actors, only killing one off if it truely fits and enriches the franchise's established mythology.

Same mask, of course.
Back to Woodsboro...amazing! Scream 2 was just about as good as the first, but the third was a huge step down. Kevin is back to complete his own trilogy!

I like the first Scream alot, but the sequels were meh, however I liked the idea of them playing with the fact that they are "beating a dead dog", so maybe there is hope, maybe.

I don't care what people say. I liked the scream films. I know their not amazing by any means, but for slasher films they did a pretty good job. I'm looking forward to this.
