Winehouse for Bond

Apr. 29, 2008by: Omar Aviles

Amy Winehouse Before Amy Winehouse fatally overdoses on a creative cocktail of narcotics and controlled substances, she'll still apparently take on a few music projects. One of these is to compose the theme song for the upcoming James Bond sequel QUANTUM OF SOLACE. Nothing's confirmed as yet but producer and collaborator Mark Ronson tells BBC News (via The Envelope). "They asked Amy, and I think Amy said that if she did it, she'd want to do it with me. So hopefully something will come of it. The demo sounds like a James Bond theme, hopefully. But I don't know if it'll get used." Bond uncovers another conspiracy by killing bad guys and banging hot chicks (though not necessarily in that order) on November 7th.

Extra Tidbit: Winehouse's album "Back to Black" won five Grammy's.

I wouldn't mind seeing her head on a spike but for some reason I wouldn't mind hearing her singing on an orchestrated Bond tune either. Weird.

... what the hell, man? No need to throw a tantrum, I was just trying to help fill you in. But hey, if you wanna be a jerk about it then be my guest.

"Huuuummmula zoom zoom zee zoom. Abba daa looo laa ping ping pong zhasdcmone awwsenomncdi ae owujeo jowww!" Christ, can't they get someone remotely sober to do this at least???

Anyone's better than Madonna

When I first heard Madonna's "Die another day" song in theaters, I honestly thought there was a problem with the sound system. I'll be happy is the song reflects the style of some of the older bond themes, and doesn't just sound like every other song that plays on the radio.

wow SkyNet, you're a douche

You should really be ashamed of yourself for wishing death on someone. I mean, wow. How fucking callous and fucking douche-y can you be? Whatever your personal opinions of her music may be (I myself am neutral having not heard much), there is absolutely no excuse to wish death on someone like that. You sir, should be VERY ashamed.

Burp...

I don't know why but seeing pictures of her makes me want to chuck my lunch, either because she's nasty or because she's a role model for eating disorders...
Regardless, I'm a musician, and I have avoided her music...

@ FireCpt

Would that be the same awards show that back in the day awarded Milli Vanilli the same award?? Im not sure.. is it??!

Grammys mean jack shit!

Winehouse will be dead and buried soon... if we're lucky, it will be before she can record the track for this bond flick!

doesn't deserve it!

The most over-rated 'singer' to helm a Bond theme! Can't top 'You know my name'!

Looking forward to it

While I'm not a huge fan of her stuff (I've only heard a couple songs), I agree with the majority here. I think her voice and style will go perfectly with a Bond Theme, similar to the Connery days. I don't think you necessarily have to be famous to do a theme... just good. Besides, she is much more famous in the UK. Do you remember A-HA doing the theme to The Living Daylights? While I didn't hate the song, I didn't think it fit well into the Bond mold. It's all a matter of taste anyhow.

PERFECT!!

I absolutely love this idea. She may be a mess but listen to her music (besides "Rehab) and you will be sold on this idea too.

Cool.

Her personal issues aside, I like her stuff... She always reminded me of Shirley Bassey (sp?) and her type of stuff is reminiscent of the theme for "Goldfinger," so I say... Why not?

Anything is better...

than Sheryl Crow's theme song. I don't have much of an opinion about her in general, but her voice in the theme song really hurt my ears. Yowzah.

@Skynet: your opinion could be received at least two ways. One: you are right - she's gotten a massive publicity boost that helped people listen to her music. Grammy's are definitely NOT an affirmation of quality (didn't Milli Vanilli win at least one grammy before losing it over lipsynch-gate?)

Two: You are ignorant - you think you are

Two: You are ignorant - you think you are wearing a mortarboard on your head, but it looks like a dunce cap to everybody else. I think the real answer is a spicy blend of the two.

This is exactly what I've said all along

This is awesome news, I've literally told all of my friends when in conversation over the new Bond films that Amy Winehouse should do the theme to it! Man, my head is about to explode.

Anyway, like her or not, she has a great voice that, in a way, reminds me of Shirley Bassey fused with Tina Turner.

All-in-all, I think this is great.

I can almost see it.
Still, my favorite theme of the modern Bond films is Garbage's The World is Not Enough.
