Witness the dark side of Disney in the trailer for Escape from Tomorrow

Sep. 11, 2013by: Alex Maidy

When our very own Chris Bumbray reviewed ESCAPE FROM TOMORROW at the Sundance Film Festival, it seemed it was a daring film that would never see the light of day. Disney was unaware of the film as it was shot guerilla style in their theme parks without consent or permission. The dark nature of the film also would not be in line with the company's family friendly mission, so decapitated robots and demonic patrons would probably not be a good idea for a movie.

Yet Disney has taken no legal action against ESCAPE FROM TOMORROW or director Randy Moore, yet, and a release date in theaters and VOD is slated for October 11th. Now we have a look at the trailer and a very surreal trip to Mickey Mouse's world.

An epic battle begins when a middle-aged American husband and father of two learns that he has lost his job. Keeping the news from his nagging wife and wound-up children, he packs up the family and embarks on a full day of park hopping amid enchanted castles and fairytale princesses.

Soon, the manufactured mirth of the fantasy land around him begins to haunt his subconscious. An idyllic family vacation quickly unravels into a surrealist nightmare of paranoid visions, bizarre encounters, and an obsessive pursuit of a pair of sexy teenage Parisians.

ESCAPE FROM TOMORROW looks impressive for a film shot on an extremely low budget. The visual nature of the movie draws comparisons with directors like Stanley Kubrick, Michel Gondry, and many others. With a month until release, Disney has plenty of time to stop this from getting released. Or, if they are good sports, they will let this small film be viewed as a work of a creative filmmaker and not a strike against their multi-billion dollar profits.

I can't even believe I got to see the trailer. I have no idea if this film is even remotely good, but I wanna see it just because of the concept...

Just think it looks like they're trying way too hard with more of an agenda to exploit ...rather than focusing on good effects and performances from actors. More of a "I wonder if we can get away with this, HEE HEE" kind of thing.

I really doubt that Disney did not know about this. With all the visuals of the park in it, hell with the poster image alone Disney would have this thing stopped by now if they did not give the ok to the film maker. I think its just a smart way to get people talking about the film.

The trailer made me think of the possibility if David Lynch were given the chance to direct a Disney film.

Well Disney missed its chance, no way the film can disappear without a trace now.
Plus of course if they let this one go it literally opens the door to the (Magic) kingdom for other filmmakers to try the same trick.

They made it to let us know that they are not just lollipops and rainbows. Disney knows what people want. They know Star Wars fans think that they are gonna "Disnify" the Star Wars franchise. They want us to know that they care. Trust me, Disney is always on top of their shit. Unlike Dreamworks, Fox, and Paramount.
