The update of the classic monster movie THE WOLF MAN hasn't had an easy transformation from start to hairy howling finish.

First, director Mark Romanek (ONE HOUR PHOTO) abruptly left  shortly before filming, and was replaced by FX guy Joe Johnston (JUMANJI, JURASSIC PARK III). The Universal remake shot in early-mid 2008, with rumors of behind-the-scenes difficulties and reported reshoots. The release date lurched all the way through 2009 until it's current slot on Feb. 12, 2010.

But even after all that time, the movie still has fangs. THE WOLFMAN has officially been rated 'R' for bloody horror, violence and gore.

The Victorian-era terror tale stars Benicio del Toro as the lycanthrope (courtesy of Oscar-winning FX guru Rick Baker, of AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON fame), tasting or evading divine Brit Emily Blunt, Hugo Weaving and Sir Anthony Hopkins.

Extra Tidbit: Think it's safe to assume the character will at least get a better treatment here than he did in VAN HELSING?

This is very good news about the rating. Let's hope the change of director and reshoots don't ruin the movie.

Good, it's "R".
I feel like we dodged a silver bullet now that this is rated R.

I actually find it sad that its big news when a studio decides to balls up and release a big budget movie as "R".

Good for them though. Hell, if Bram Stokers Dracula and Mary Shelly's Frankenstein can earn an 'R' in the 90's, then the wolfman (which is actually more violent and badass) should get an 'R' as well. besides, a true werewolf movie thats kid friendly would just not...

It does. Especially when it comes to horror and action movies. i dont get pumped to watch movies when their edited on TV. its the same concept when there edited to get a PG13, theyre taking out all the scenes that you used to refer to as "the good stuff" when you were a kid. if i see an 'R' movie i really wanna watch thats coming on TBS, yet that i have on dvd, I watch the dvd instead, because 'the good stuff' is cut out. you know you all do the same and for the same reasons (as well as no commercials)

I'm gonna stay hesitant...
An R rating does not a good movie make. I want this to be good, but I fear it may be so-so.

I hope I'm wrong because the whole Johnicioluntopkins combo pack is totally intriguing.

"An R rating does not a good movie make."

Case in point: Jennifer's Body

actually, it takes a right combination of things to make a movie good. and if past has taught us anything, PG-13 horror doesnt bode well for long term and movies making a stamp in hollywood. they just typically do well for one weekend then you never hear from them again.

"R" rating was a no-brainer for this film + finally a very cool One Sheet poster is revealed! after months of rather uninspired Advanced poster releases.

I already wanted to see this, and now I'm even more excited. This is what we all need to wash the "New Moon" taste out of our mouths.

This is probably an international poster because some countries write the day before the month when writing the date

Awesome. I was afraid this would end up being PG-13 and all tame.

There has been so much about this film with the director change and constantly changing the release date i am simply just going to see it out of morbid curiosity. it has benecio, hopkins and blunt and from what i have heard some great practical effects so there must be some good in it.

Give 'em a break. There weren't "director changes," it just took a while for the producer (Benicio) to find the right one. It's not like people were kicked off the set and blacklisted. Same with the date changes. We only know about these boring trivial business decisions because there is so much anticipation for the movie. I guarantee you that all this same business goes on with every movie.
