Wolverine 3 to explore Professor X's father/son relationship with Wolverine

09.24.2015

It's a little strange and a little sad to think that WOLVERINE 3 will be Hugh Jackman's final appearance as the character, but Jackman has been adamant that this final outing will be his best Wolverine film yet. We don't know much about what WOLVERINE 3 will bring us, but we do know that Patrick Stewart's Professor X will be putting in an appearance. Jackman spoke with Collider recently where he detailed where they're at in the scripting process and some of the ideas they're working on:

I’ll be really honest with you, the actual script in its full form we’re up to about Page 60. Obviously there’s a treatment, so it’s not fully done yet, we’re not fully there. Patrick does figure in it that’s for sure. I think it’s a really important relationship but I want to see signs of that quasi-father/son sort of relationship that has not been seen before, and sides of particularly Professor X that have not been seen before. So we have some really, really cool ideas.

Collider's article mentions, and I agree, that it's a fitting way to bring the characters full circle as the first X-Men film featured Professor X taking on more of a mentor/father relationship than he would in the sequels. Hugh Jackman mentions that he expects filming to begin next year (he's already begun training), but that he won't officially sign on to the project until he's sure that it will be perfect.

I’m saying ‘but’ and I’m sounding a little cagey because this is the last time I’m playing him, and I have just made the commitment to myself, really, and told everyone that until that script is perfect, until it is that perfect way to sign out, I’m not gonna start shooting. So that’s why I don’t wanna say ‘Yes’ for sure, because until Page 115, 120, whatever it is…

For Jackman's sake, and ours, I really hopes that he knocks this last one out of the park; nothing like leaving the new guy with some extra big shoes to fill. WOLVERINE 3 is set for a March 3, 2017 release.

Father and Son?!

The problem is, Xavier (while having good relations with all the X-Men) had the father/son relationship with Cyclops and NOT Wolverine. Cyclops was his pick to be the leader of the X-Men, when he was gone.

This is one of the reasons that the X-Men films have been so lackluster. They way Fox wants to have them is "Wolverine and the X-Men"...not "X-Men". Sadly so. Again, and I know that I'm sounding like a broken record at this point, stick with the original material. For the love of

Ugh, I hope Fox doesn't make this Old Man Logan storyline (if indeed it is), completely unrecognizable

He also said The Wolverine would be perfect and Fox fucked it all up

The Wolverine was SO close to being amazing. But Fox got involved, turned the villain into a generic robot, the plot got convoluted and even the scenery was conflicting. How could they film part of it with such an amazing classic Japanese look and then an action scene happens and they teleport to Akihabara, the Geek Meccha, The Electric Town of Tokyo. It's like if someone made a movie, filmed it in the wild west and then an action scene breaks out and all of a sudden they teleport to Modern Day

They should have kept that classic look throughout the film. Even the ninja scene in the snow looked great, but then a giant fight against a robot happens and it gets CGI'd to death.

Father and son relationship? But which is the father and which is the son? You gotta remember that Wolverine is waaaay older than Charles Xavier.
Or maybe this will have Daken in the plot? Or X23?

I guess the OLD MAN LOGAN storyline is out the window?

Hugh Jackman has been a stellar Wolverine and I hope his last film is his best.

I've loved Jackman as Wolverine and pretty much every good to great bit in any of the X-Men movies involves Jackman's Wolverine. As cruddy as Origins was, even that had some great Wolverine bits and pieces. That said, the guy is forever telling us how this time it's going to be great...how we're finally going to get to see the Wolverine and it never lives up to his hype. Admittedly, this time it appears he's changed tact somewhat...being a little bit more caution about it...but once that

Anyhoo, hopefully we'll get the knock it out of the park Wolverine movie he deserves to have under his belt.

I'm assuming based off of the last scene of Days of Future Past there still some unlocking of Logan's memory that Xavier is going to help him remember.

And for some reason I kind of want to see Cyclops show up in this as well in some capacity.
