Wolvie 2 already?

Mar. 26, 2009by: Omar Aviles

Update: So, according to "Hollywood Insider", Beaufoy hasn't been recruited for anything. WOLVERINE producer Lauren Shuler Donner did approach Beaufoy about it informally but he didn't think he was right for the project. Also, they haven't even started talking about a WOLVERINE 2: CLAWED AND FABULOUS.

<a href=X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE" /> Well, son of a bitch, not only is Fox preparing a sequel to the yet to be released comic adapted actioner X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE but they've already hired a writer to pen the screenplay. A scooper for AICN recently dropped the news that SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE scribe Simon Beaufoy recently mentioned at the Bradford International Film Festival in the UK that he'd been recruited to write the sequel to the clawed, irascible mutant's adventures. What's a little concerning, though, is that Beaufoy claims to have never even heard of the character so maybe not the best guy to write a movie about him. Though he could bring a fresh perspective to the whole thing. What do you guys think?

Extra Tidbit: So really? Fox is that confident that this flick will make mad cash at the box office?

Been a Wolvie fan since I was a kid. Read almost every X-Men comic there is but I'll reserve judgment until I see the movie. Although, the trailer does look pretty good. I hope they show some scenes from his time in Japan. Not sure if I can see Mickey in this either. Anyone who knows the character knows that Logan is short, stocky and hairy. I would like this movie be a success. Wolverine has a huge following.

Rourke is a great actor, and could fill certain roles, but dead wrong at Wolverine. Glen Danzig should have been Wolvie.

Pompey Magnus, interesting suggestion, but isn't Mickey Rourke a little too old to play wolvie?

Nothing's guaranteed

...and, for some reason, I don't think it'll be the mega hit FOX wants it to be. Something just doesn't sit right with me. To be honest, it's Jackman. I STILL can't accept him as Wolvie. You want an inspired casting choice? Mickey Rourke. If you've read the comics, you know I'm right.

I cant wait to see this.... BUT.... Theres always a but... 2 things

#1 to ASSUME that this will make shitloads of $$$. the word assume makes an ASS out of U and ME.

#2 to presume this will make again shitloads of $$$. PRESUMPTION is the mother of all fuckups.

So FOX needs to take a seat in the back row and wait to see how this bad boy turns out before thinking of a sequel.

Fingers crossed it's everything we want.

The feeling I have is that between the end of this movie and the beggining of X-Men Wolverine just wonders around by himself not really saving anyone or fighting crazy mutants... not much of a movie there...

Hugh would probably be quite happy to have a few Bollywood numbers in Wolverine 2.

Who the fuck was comparing Watchmen to TDK??? The only thing remotely compareable to the two was the fanboy factor. TDK had everything.. the rabid women who love Heath Ledger and saw it 4 times, the rabid fanboys who love Batman and saw it 5 times.

I dunno.. Wolverine looks kinda shitty to me. The more I see of it, the less I like it.

Until Tom Rothman is forced to resign his position, I will not pay to see any movie from 20th Century Fox.

Ill take the wait and see approach to this film. By wait and see, I mean wait to see how awesome this film is and see why this film couldn't be more awesome. ;]

Fanboys are hardly good Box office gurus

Look at what happened to Watchmen. People were comparing it to TDK and it tanked big time.
Wolverine is an established brand with 3 prior movies. It is opening on a weekend with virtually no competition and therefore a 100M weekend is assured.
Its long term prospects may be weak but Jackman is an international star so expect bigger returns from international BO.
If I have to guess, I would say this movie would make at least 500M worldwide

Yeah, this will likely end up being the least grossing X-Men film to date, so Fox should sit back and see what happens before they get ahead of themselves.

It'd be dumb to think this WON'T make 'mad cash'

Whether or not it'll be any good is a different question...
