Wolvie update

10.24.2007
David Benioff (TROY) originally wrote the script for the WOLVERINE movie, but since then Skip Woods (HITMAN) has been brought on to re-write the thing. The LA Times has a piece on the chaos that the allegedly impending strike is having on WOLVERINE and movies like ANGELS AND DEMONS and the Pitt-Norton re-teaming, STATE OF PLAY; Just last week, 20th Century Fox issued an announcement that the studio was laying claim to May 1, 2009, as the release date for its big-budget sci-fi spinoff "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" starring Hugh Jackman. This was just days after it issued an urgent SOS to the major agencies looking for a quick rewrite person. I don't really know how long people take to write or re-write scripts, perhaps it's different from person to person, but I certainly don't like the idea that something as potentially cool as the WOLVERINE movie might be hampered by a script that was cracked out just to beat the deadline of October 31st. You can read the entire article over HERE.

In other news, the young Wolvie (presumably for flash-backs or an introductory piece, or both) has been cast. Kodi Smit-Mcphee (ROMULUS, MY FATHER), another Aussie will bare the kiddie-claws in the prequel to be directed by Gavin Hood (RENDITION).
Extra Tidbit: Apparently Jackman's favourite curse word is 'bullshit'.

I somehow doubt they'll play up the Canadian thing. We've been hosed (ahem) many times in the past because, well, America loves American heroes and Americans are the big market. Either way, I hope they don't bastardize his Origin and just focus on something else convoluted like his involvement in Vietnam or something, so they don't delude millions of people who'd be otherwise unaware and consider movies their #1 source of info.
If the origin starts off with him as some high school kid in

If the origin starts off with him as some high school kid in middle-America in the 40s, it would ruin the entire experience for me.

WHY, DAMNIT, WHY?!

Now, I dont know how good Benioff would have writen the script, but according to sources the man has been a Wolvie fans since his kiddie days. That's good. I don't friggin' care who writes as long as the story's good and they stick to the Origins tales. And for Pete's sake why'd Wolverine get affected?! It's bad enough that Marvel basically produces sloppy messes of movies, now they have to mess up the one movie that I place hope on from Marvel?! Why, damnit, why??!

Oh, thank GOD David Benioff isn't involved. TROY is an absolute atrocity, totally sloppy work.

It's just been announced that a good chunk of the film will be shot in Otago, New Zealand. Which is basically beautiful country side, similar to that seen in LOTR.

Mut, I HOPE they're sticking with Wolverine's "Origin" because, the last I heard, the movie's script involved young Wolvie fighting, erm, high school jocks...which, unfortunately, doesn't sound like 1800's Canada.

And I hope this isn't going to be another X3-ish disaster that's rushed into production to meet some arbitrary deadline.

Um ... that kid is 11 years old. So I guess they're gonna do the "Origin" bit with the Howletts and Dog and whatnot? That would certainly be, well, interesting.
