Wonder Woman news

I haven't really been following this thing with any interest, but there are a couple of updates on the status of the WONDER WOMAN movie, this time from producer Leonard Goldberg (CHARLIE'S ANGELS). He first talks about the rumor that the Wachowskis might be involved:

“At one time, Joel [Silver] said they might have an idea. But they got diverted to another project [and] never followed through... There may come a time when they will be focused on ‘Wonder Woman’ and may come up with whatever their take on it was. They’re certainly very talented guys. Their vision for movies — whether they’re successful or not — is always singular.”

But what he does know is that he wants the story to be modern:

“I hope that we don’t finally wind up doing the same story again: Steve Trevor flying, and his plane crashes onto the island [of Themyscira, Wonder Woman’s matriarchal homeland]. He’s supposed to be executed, and she saves his life. Perhaps we’ll do that in a very abbreviated fashion up front, and then come up with a story that no one has seen yet.”

Let's be honest, if you're Leonard Goldberg you've fallen ass-first into the greatest job on Earth. No one really gives a shit about a Wonder Woman movie as a movie. We care about which chick gets cast and the subsequent prospect of seeing her prance around on a big screen for two hours in a pair of knee-high boots and a bustier. If there was ever a movie impossible to fuck up, this is the one. Put Mary Elizabeth Winstead in the lead and you'll turn a profit even if the villain is Excessive Nostril Hair Man or something.
Extra Tidbit: If RESIDENT EVIL 3 is making money with Mila Jovovich and Ashanti fully clothed and fighting the age-old scourge of zombie crows, WONDER WOMAN is cleaning up.
