World War Z sequel starting with a 'clean slate' says writer Steven Knight

Even though WORLD WAR Z suffered from a lot of production issues that inevitably were made public, Marc Forster’s take on the Max Brook novel would eventually go on to box office success bringing in $540 million and securing itself a sequel. While there hasn’t been much in the way of news regarding the upcoming sequel since Steven Knight (LOCKE) signed on to write the script, he’s now come out and talked about the direction of the movie.

Knight told Indiewire about writing the WORLD WAR Z sequel:

"I thought, ‘why not? What fun.’ It’s not quite like the other, we’re starting with clean slate. When they’ve signed off we’re on."

As little information as that may sound, the prospect of a clean slate is definitely intriguing for this fan of the book and movie. He doesn’t confirm that he’s going to be sticking to the source material more than the predecessor, but a different direction still leaves that as a possibility. More details about the movie hopefully start to come through; WORLD WAR Z 2 is expected to go into production this October to make its way into theaters in 2016.

I like the first movie for what it was. It definitely was not the best zombie movie and definitely not a great movie. There were definitely lots of detractors in the movie that meant it could have been much more. For instance, no zombie movie should ever have PG-13 violence, it needs to be graphic and bloody. Overall, I thought the story was good enough that it outweighed the negatives for me to enjoy the movie. I've never read the book so I don't know how it matches up, from people's

I've never read the book so I don't know how it matches up, from people's comments I assume not very well. But if they're moving forward with a sequel, hopefully it's a chance to add more of the book's narrative into the film franchise.

The first film was two thirds of a good movie then it kinda petered out for the final act. If they'd gone for something like the epic battle ending they originally planned it could have been an awesome film.

Well I'm a sucker for zombie movies and apocalyptic movies so I'm not gonna say no to this. Personally, I enjoyed the first movie and it had a great theme tune and as improbable as that airplane scene was, it was a tense scene.

I liked the movie. It wasn't as bad as people thought it would be. It was an OK zombie apocalypse movie.

As razgriz21 said, the first was horribly shot and edited. Terrible CGI and PG-13 violence instead of graphic violence. How anyone can have enjoyed that is beyond me. The movie had nothing. Not one thing going for it. How it made money is even more beyond me. Then again Adam Sandler movies make tons of money too...

They screwed up horribly by not following the book and picking one of the many great stories.

Plus, it was horribly shot and edited along with terrible CGI and PG-13 violence instead of graphic violence (which this genre benefits and needs).

Also, it was a vanity project for Brad Pitt.

The first one failed to create the World War feel of the book, and instead went with the generic zombie outbreak story, complete with smart people doing stupid sh*t cliches and the main character=unlimited luck trope. A sequel seem unnecessary, but I guess it's inevitable.

A small suggestion to the screenwriter, please go read the manga I Am a Hero for an alternative, realistic approach to the tired zombie genre.

Like I mentioned over on Arrow..

I think they should just make the actual novel the second movie. Make Brad Pitt's character the Max Brooks interviewer from the book. Have him traveling around post-war doing research for the government and he meets all the storytellers that give him their experiences as they witnessed them. Then the movie could be a series of shorts that show us the famous stories from the novel. I'd love to see the military shootout to Iron Maiden's "The Trooper," the compound full of celebrities trying to

So if it won't involve Pitt and/or his character's family, then perhaps it will be just the same storyline with a diffent point of view?

I do hope we get to see a continuation from the first one in some way.

one thing I liked about the first movie is that it successfully made the Zombie Apocalypse apocolyptic. It looked like a situation where you probably would end up dead, unlike most Zombie movies and TV shows.

I enjoyed it, though I get why book lovers would feel cheated. But I wasn't that invested in the bookm

I like the idea of a clean slate since I was one of the few that hated the first
