Wrath of the Titans director Jonathan Liebesman in talks to direct the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

02.15.2012

Inching ever closer to production is Paramount and Platinum Dunes' new live-action TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES film. Last we heard, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - GHOST PROTOCOL writers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec had come aboard to script the reptilian antics of Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael, but no director had yet to be put in charge... until now.

According to Variety, BATTLE: LOS ANGELES and upcoming WRATH OF THE TITANS helmer Jonathan Liebesman has entered negotiations to direct the heroes in a half-shell. While plot details are pretty much non-existent as this point, word is we'll be seeing the same shit we saw in the last live-action adaptation: the Foot, April O'Neil, and Casey Jones. No surprises there. The turtles themselves are expected to be created using CGI (presumably with motion capture).

As for Liebesman, the director is currently hard at work putting the finishing touches on the further adventures of Perseus in WRATH OF THE TITANS, which opens March 30th. I'm really looking forward to that one for some reason.

I am all for another TMNT movie but i would hope it would be more darker like the original comics & not as campy as the original trilogy was.

Last Live Action Movie?

The last live action movie was a time-travel tale set in feudal Japan. Where were the Foot? Just saying!

I'm on board ...

Any Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle live-action flick has my money but like TAE K mentioned below what happened to that talk about them using real suits and CGI faces (like Where the Wild Things Are)?
Either way it's time for the Turtles to make a comeback.

Yes. I was thinking the same thing. Real suits and CGI face expressions. It worked well on Where the wild things are.

If they get Ray Parks or Tony Jaa in the suits, I would be ok with it. Oh, and Serkis needs to be in the mo cap suit for Splinter.

Sometimes I hate the person that invented CGI.

well I'd rather have people in costumes too, but if they can make it as believeable as the new Planet of the Apes was then I'm happy. Cool if they could get the original voice actors back! I'd like to see Corey Feldman reprise his role!

No CGI

As far as I'm concerned, a live-action movie isn't really a live-action movie when the main characters are computer generated. The basic concept for Jim Henson's turtles doesn't need replacing, touched up maybe, but not replaced.

We'll

I am not a huge fan of CGI characters...but I am trying to remain optimistic. I really loved the original live action movie, although I never liked how Splinter started as a rat mimicking his masters moves from his cage. I always found that silly. However, I think Elias Koteas (sp?) was PERFECT as Casey Jones.

CGI turtles?

they should go with the 90's turtle costumes + CGI faces.

i would have preferred brad bird to direct this one though. he could have made an awesome TMNT movie.
