X-Files 3???

08.21.2009by:

The last X-FILES movie didn't fair so well as most of you know, what went wrong? Well, looks like they might be trying to fix it, or not, in a third X-FILES.

The news come via Croatian website DNEVNIK.hr while Gillian Anderson was attending the Sarajevo Film Festival. Anderson spoke on her role as Agent Scully, "Of course I would play in the new film sequel for THE X-FILES." I would most certainly hope so, it'd be beyond wrong for anyone else to play the part.

But since when were they planning on making another X-FILES movie? The site indirectly quoted her saying it was go, 'The new extension is in preparation and should be filmed in 2012.' Okay...I don't really know how to feel about this. Until a director, writer, or something more official comes out, I'd be skeptical.

Sadly, I have only ever seen a couple of X-FILES episodes. I didn't watch the movies because I felt it important to watch the show before seeing the movie. All I know is that the X-FILES film that came out in 2008 had so much hype, but didn't deliver like fans expected it to. Maybe if there are any schmoes who are rabid X-FILES fans can explain that one to me.

Extra Tidbit: One thing I can be sure on is that Gillian Anderson is one foxy lady.

There was hype surrounding the second X-Files movie? Really? I remember it just kind of sneaking into the theatres and then sneaking out again, with barely any marketing whatsoever.

And was I the only one who thought that movie seemed like it had been a 'Millennium' script that got hastily rewritten into an 'X-Files' script?

I remember being at either WonderCon or Comic Con, and the crowd just wanted them off the stage. Granted, the Iron Man panel was right after it, so that had a lot to do with people not caring about a tv show movie.

On here I remember a bunch of people being excited about it, as well as others outside of the site. You are correct though, there wasn't a lot of marketing for it.

Expectations

I think the last movie was a victim of expectation, to a certain extent. The most frequent negative remark I heard about I Want to Believe was "What was that? Where were the aliens?" Which is not so much a comment on the actual film, but on the film they thought they were going to see. People seemed to expect to see some sort of invasion movie instead they got this small, dark, thematically intense movie more in keeping with the earlier seasons than the first feature, Fight the Future.

Since we all know that the next film would be about the 2012 mythology, I suppose the "where are the aliens" people will at least be happy in that regard. I'll just be happy to see Mulder and Scully again. :)

I just started watching the first season of the X-files and I'm enjoying it immensely. I can't wait to plow through the rest of the series and then watch the movies. I'm sure this franchise needs a 3rd installment to actually find that perfect, well-received conclusion.

I was dissapointed in the lastest X-Files movie, but I'm game for any more stories to be told in the X-Files universe. The truth is STILL out there!

Mulder was accused of murder in the final X-Files episode

and this was summed up by Scully telling him "All is forgiven" in the last X-Files movie. It was a bit of a letdown. That being said, a movie in which everybody came clean about the whole alien invasion conspiracy (and about how the bad guys were really the good guys in that they were just covering things up so that people wouldn't panic and were turning MIB on its ear) is almost certainly going to be a letdown. But we'll see.

The newest X-Files flick wasnt bad, but still a letdown. More like an ambitious episode than a good addition to the mythology (which further movies should be. Im certainly game for sequels.

I think I'm one of the few people who enjoyed "I Want to Believe". While it wasn't perfect, I still liked it a lot. As a huge fan of the show, this is some of the best and most exciting news in a while!!!!!

I'm a huge fan of the show and I've seen the entire series twice probably. But the last movie was a massive piece of shit. I know they couldn't go out of their way to explain things about the finale in a stand alone movie like 7 years after the show ended, but I was really disappointed with the whole plot. The villains were a joke and the whole thing was probably worse than some of the worst X-files episodes (and I'll admit that's bad!).

But 2012 has been a huge part of the mythology since

But 2012 has been a huge part of the mythology since the show. I'd definitely go see it if they were given another shot to redeem themselves. Though, I don't recall "I Want to Believe" making a ton of money so who knows if it'll actually happen.

OH DEAR GOD, NO!!!

Seriously though, can we just let this show stay dead for more than say, 10-20 years? I know it's Duchovney's only way left of getting a paycheck for acting, but enough is enough.

I Want to Believe was crap on a stick.

I would be down for another X-files movie but for the love of god Get someone else to direct Chris Carter is terrible..at least at directing a full length feature.

Oh god, let it go. How does stuff like this keep getting made when a Friends movie is still nowhere in sight?

YES!

The first movie was OK, second sucked. I want an x-files movie about monsters! like all the best episodes. New director too, Chris Carter is only good as a writer.

never watched the TV show.. but did enjoy the flicks. But i will say I Want To Believe was a bit of a let down mainly because it was just a weird case about a kiddy touching priest... it had nothing to do with aliens or conspiracy or anything. I look forward to a part 3 and i hope it delves into Aliens and the like.

It seems like I'm among the few who actually liked I Want to Believe. I thought it worked really well as more of a crime drama with a supernatural twist than a blatent Sci-fi flick. I really liked Scully's story-arch in the movie as well. But, to each their own, I guess.

After watching the last X-files movie, i was suprised by how much it sucked, i haden't watched x-files for years, but remember it being better than that so i went and re-watched the whole series and it really is one of the best shows of all time, i hope they can finish on a good note because the season finale or the last movie def left a bad taste in my mouth, so I'm all down for them giving it another stab, you can never really have to much moulder or scully.

Do it, Doug!

I liked the last movie. I liked that it was shot in Canada. It felt like some of the good early episodes. It was a monster of the week style movie, but some of the best episodes were monster of the week shows that didn't deal with the mythology. A new movie will be great and will make mythology folks much happier seeing as it will be dealing with an alien invasion.

I want a third movie and lets stick to the supernatural, not deranged doctors putting two headed dogs together.

I'll explain it...

The "hype" for the 2008 film was fabricated by online fanboys. The actual millions of people who watched X-Files and loved it had LONG since moved past X-Files by 2008.

The show had died a painful death by the time it was off the air, and absolutely did not need a movie to be made over a decade after the show was relevant to the fans.
