X marks the teaser poster for X-Men: First Class

Jan. 19, 2011by: Dave Davis

Well. After that costume lineup pic that looked like it might be for a relaunch of the "Mutant X" TV series, those new casual snaps from X-MEN: FIRST CLASS were a bit of a relief, huh? At least if you're hoping for a groovy 1960s version of the familiar (and some not quite so) Marvel mutants. With cleavage.

And now AICN got the first teaser poster (click below for big), which is pretty straightforward and scholastic, while still somewhat thematically similar (a big metal X!) to the early poster images for Bryan Singer's own X-movies.

Speaking of Singer, the FIRST CLASS producer got in touch with AICN's recuperating webmaster Harry Knowles, who says: "Bryan tells me that he's seen a mock up for the trailer, but they've still got a ton of visual effects shots left to slug into the thing."

Extra Tidbit: FIRST CLASS director Matthew Vaughn was originally going to direct X-MEN: LAST STAND, and later had this to say about Brett Ratner's work: "I could have made something a hundred times better than the film that was eventually made. It sounds arrogant, but I could have done something with far more emotion and heart." We'll see if he walks the walk.

It's pretty much what I was expecting out of a teaser poster for this film, actually. I'll have to wait and see if the final product's good or bad. But if it does suck, at least we'll still have January Jones' perky knockers.

This movie just feels to rushed to me. I know that Singer and Vaughn have the best intentions and I'm like that they are attempting something different, but I feel like Fox rushed this movie and in the end the quality will suffer because of it. The fact that a trailer isn't ready for this film, despite being released in under 5 months, worrie me.

Definitely rushed. Basically 12 months from writing a script to hitting the screen. Compare that to something like THE AVENGERS, which has more than twice that much development time. Most "big" movies get around 18-24 months -- script, rewrites, pre-production, design, location scouting, casting, principal photography, post-production, editing, reshoots/pickups, scoring, FX processing, final tweaking... takes some time.

But for a while now, Fox seems to be more interested in release dates

I agree anomaly7

This feels like the "Jonah Hex" of 2011. Fox just can't be trusted to handle anything. And to think, that Fox is interested in buying the rights to the 007 films (shudders).

I thought this was coming out in 2012 like all the other big movies that we haven't heard much about. I'm going to go with anomaly7. This is way too rushed.

I trust Vaughn but this whole rushing production and adding a bunch of unnecessary characters is exactly what FOX did with The Last Stand and we saw how that turned out.

Hopefully, Vaughn is able to turn out a great film anyway but I'm definitely concerned now.

I dunno, it's definitely under the radar, but Super 8 is next year and there's little to nothing on that except for the teaser. Though it's a bit odd there's not even a teaser yet....

mhhhheh

What a boring poster. The movie is set in the 60's, make it look retro or something.

This year is going to be a superb year with a great (hopefully) comic flick hitting every month! What a wonderful time to be alive!

Awsome homage to Bryan Singer's films! this is really starting to feel like a prequel to Singer's X-films.

tidbit: I agree with Vaughn 100% and cannot wait to see what he does with First Class!

Looks okay I guess. Oh, how I'd love to love this movie. I wish I could get that "hype" back like back when superhero movies were relatively new and cool. And before Fox started to destroy everything and anything superhero-related that they had their hands in.

It would have looked a lot classier if they had gotten the plaque made in actual metal.

he certainly talk the talk, the man clearly is aware of what he can do, i mean, he has a very good career so far, Layer Cake, Stardust and Kick Ass, these are all great movies, so, i believe he can definitely walk the walk, now the question is: will he?

lets just wait and see :)

Love it!

That is the perfect definition of a summer box-office teaser poster and I love it.

re: extra tidbit

he sounds like a real humble guy. yep. there's no way he's going to fall flat on his face and fail in an embarrassing fashion.

Yeah, but seriously..I think we can agree that he definitely would've turned out a better X3 than Ratner--as would have dozens of other directors.
