X-Men: Days of Future Past gets an earlier release date and adds yet another castmember

Jun. 25, 2013by: Alex Maidy

Okay, now this is getting a little ridiculous.

Last week when Fox flipped the release dates for DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES and X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, I assumed that they had faith in where X-MEN was headed while APES needed a little more time to be completed. But, instead, Bryan Singer is adding even more characters to his already crowded blockbuster.

The Wrap reports that Australian actor Josh Helman is being added to the movie in an undisclosed role that will shoot for several weeks, making it more than a bit part. Helman recently filmed MAD MAX: FURY ROAD with DAYS OF FUTURE PAST costar Nicholas Hoult.

I am not sure exactly how Bryan Singer plans to fit everyone into X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST without them all feeling like cameos. At this rate, the movie will have to be a minimum of two and a half hours long and that may be a stretch for the material. I hope that the bad feelings brewing in fans about how full this film is will end up being for no reason. Time will tell.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST stars Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Halle Berry, Daniel Cudmore, James Marsden, Evan Peters, and Josh Helman and now opens everywhere on May 23, 2014.

Out of all the Marvel movies being released next year this and Guardians of the Galaxy are the two that I'm most excited for and simultaneously worried about. There is zero middle ground either this will be amazing or an unmitigated disaster.

Like previously said Bryan Singer is a good director with some misfires but as a whole he is pretty solid. And all this worry about too many actors is ridiculous, sure there are a lot of mutants, but obviously that does not mean they all get equal screen time, it will be bloated, etc.

Don't Fear.

The characters get their due. Kinberg has done a brilliant job, and Singer is nailing it. Nobody will be disappointed.

My two infant daughters were just cast as Jubilee and Lockheed. Obviously they don't act and didn't audition; it turns out they had just gotten to everyone else already. I was worried about their lack of experience but they sent us a copy of the script (it is one page and reads "every X-man and mutant ever does stuff" over and over like it was written by Jack Torrance) and I think they will be ok. We are excited for their big, bizarrely easy to obtain break!

I still have faith that Singer will be able to pull this off. He's given us three great X-Men films and I don't see why he can't give us a forth and possibly a fifth if the movie is in fact going to be split into two films. Would be the better move in my opinion. Would help for far better storytelling.

I totally agree with your statements on Singer. The guy's three for three so why in the world should we have any legitimate fear that he's going to screw this one up? As for splitting the story in half, I beg to differ. I think it totally could work fine that way, but the material really does not need it. It only covered two issues of the comics and is really a very basic story, I don't know how many times I've read it, but you could totally do it justice in a single film.

What is this third film you two are on about? Are you under the impression he had something to do with First Class?

Yes, the third film we're talking about is First Class, because he wrote the final version of the screenplay, produced it and Vaughan consulted him heavily throughout production.

That's false, he co-wrote the story with Sheldon Turner. AShley Miller, Zachary Stentz, Jane Goldman, and Matthew Vaughn are credited with writinig the screenplay. Furthermore, Singer is credited as a producer (which is also the easiest credit to get in Hollywood) and is one of 9 producers on the film. So don't get too carried away with making Singer look like he was strongly connected to the success of First Class.

That being said, the man has given us two incredibly strong X-Men

That being said, the man has given us two incredibly strong X-Men films. X-Men and X2 were both amazing films and the franchise only took a wrong turn with X3. I certainly think he has the talent to turn out a THIRD great X-Men film, but like many other people I too get worried about how full the cast is getting. Hopefully this all pays off in the end, I'd rather be proven wrong that proven right in this case.

My take on it

1) it will be two movies

or

2) cameos. the movies 'takes place' in the 70s. i think it will deal more with the new class and the old class (x1 through x3) will be cameos because we are already familiar with them, we know them, so we already have an attachment. but who knows. movie could suck.

Fox is probably going to split 'Days of Future Past' into two movies. Don't be shocked if they (Fox) announce that it's going to get split up into two movies at Comic-con in July. Releasing 'Days of Future Past: Part 1' in May of 2014, and Part 2 in December 2014 would be a genius move. Singer wouldn't have to rush anything, and he could give all of these characters even screen time...it would be win win.

Thats been suggested many times... its a possibility for sure. But personally, Im not sure if I want two x-men movies dealing with the same story, instead of having another sequel with a new concept and villain, like Apocalyse for example. Hell, next sequel could easily have both him and Mr. Sinister. It could be pretty epic, and having the full team back this time. (on present time, I mean)

I'd be really surprised if they split it, honestly it'd make total sense for them, because all of the sudden the studio can earn twice as much money, but honestly I've read that story arc I don't know how many times and it really doesn't need it. You could totally do it justice in a single 130 minute film. If they were to split it up, it'd ultimately be a cash grab move. That's not to say that it couldn't turn out well that way (a la The Hobbit), but it would be a cash grab move none the less

One word, bro, cameos.

Bryan Singer is directly responsible for the three best X-Men movies, directing two of them and [link] the other. Seriously, what in his X-Men resume makes us think that he's suddenly going to screw things up? The Lord of the Rings movies had like a bazillion actors, but worked because many of the roles, though significant, were really just cameos. The same is true for the Harry Potter films and to a lesser extent the new Star Trek flicks. I'm positive, that we'll see this film follow suit,

That's exactly what I have been thinking all along, maybe the majority of these are simply cameos. Just feel it's too soon to give up on this movie already. Fanboys will rage like usual anyway, but ya I am waiting for some actual footage.

It's not his Xmen resume, it's his résumé as a whole. Not really the best.

His resume as a whole???

The Great:
The Usual Suspects
Apt Pupil
X2

The Good:
X-Men
X-Men First Class
Valkyrie

The Bad:
Superman Returns
Jack the Giant Slayer

That seems pretty heavily stacked in his favor.

Why do you keep crediting this guy with the success of First Class? He co-wrote the story and was one of 9 producers. Sure, you need a story first before you can make a movie, but he didn't even write the finished product of what Matthew Vaughn used for the film. I'm not saying the movie is going to suck, the two movies he did create were great and people shouldn't rule him out on DOFP just yet, he's more than capable of turning out a great film. But come one, you're beefing up facts to

They are just there to populate the world. There is no way I believe that all of these mutants play a major role in the story.

Fans are forgetting that as of right now, the 70's period of the movie doenst have enough characters yet.

The only confirmed characters for the 70's are the 4 First Class leads, more Wolverine and Peter Dinklage role. We could add Quicksilver, but taking into account that this movie its set 11 years after FC, well, there would be much more mutants on that decade, right? thats why they are still confirming actors, becuase Singer has to build the 70's world.

The other confirmed actors are for the future, and maybe that part of the movie will be smaller, so there will be some cameos here and there, either on prisions or fighting the sentinels.

To me the cast is pretty fine, this is a Crossover movie, and a complex story, thats why the cast is big. Because the movie DEALS with a big story. Not a introduction one, like X1 back in the day.

That's a good point, I've never really thought about it like that. I mean, First Class kind of introduced us to an entirely new X-Men franchise really. They would still need to build some more of that cast as well. Especially since at the end of the movie the X-Men consist of Prof. X, Beast, Havoc, and Banshee.

I'm kind of hoping they'll use this movie as a way to branch off into two separate X-Men franchises. One following the First Class storyline, the other following the present day

This was already announced last week? Falling behind a little are we? Still need to see a trailer first to decide if it will be good or not though.
