X-Men voted the most anticipated film of Summer 2014; new trailer coming

03.13.2014

I’m sure you guys have already figured out which movies you want to check out this Summer. What’s first on your list? Second? Third? Rotten Tomatoes posted the top 10 Summer flicks according to their visitors.

What landed in the number one spot? That would be X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. I don’t think that’s much of a surprise, nor is THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 coming in second. There were a few choices here that I thought were interesting like NEIGHBORS, HERCULES, and DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. More like I didn’t think they would make the top ten. Maybe HERCULES because I’ve seen a lot of positive feedback from movie fans who are excited to check it out.

Here’s the entire list:

1. X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

2. THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

3. HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2

4. DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES

5. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

6. GODZILLA

7. 22 JUMP STREET

8. NEIGHBORS

9. TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION

10. HERCULES

Also be on the lookout for the next X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST trailer which is set to drop on March 24th. We will have it on the site as soon as it hits so be sure to check back.

What’s your Summer 2014 top ten?

Forgot to say I'm surprised Christopher Nolan's Interstellar didn't crack the top 10 at least.

No surprise about 1 and 2 as it reflects the films with the largest mass appeal of general audiences and Faboys (which RT doesn't cater exclusively to). I'm digging Xmen myself and can't wait to see the trailer, though Godzilla is looking bad ass too!

Of genre films, this is at the BOTTOM of my list. Hoping its good, but I've seen next to nothing that gives me confidence.

Fixing the list for myself: Granted a lot of people will disagree. (first 2 are bias being big fans of both franchises since the 80's)
1. TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION (sure many will disagree, but I have a love/hate for the TF movies. As a big TF fan, I enjoy moments all 3 movies have and hope this one not only has those moments but also a better story and actual Transformers would be nice, but still excited)
2. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Still waiting for a teaser, but as a huge TMNT

2. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Still waiting for a teaser, but as a huge TMNT fan, very excited and hopeful)
3. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (Has SO much potential to be fun)
4. GODZILLA (really? It's GODZILLA and not iguana mutant. Enough said)
5. Captain America The Winter Soldier (Excited about how this one goes)
6. X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST (Could be a clusterfuck, but looking forward to it)
7. THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 (didn't care for the reboot, but I am a spidey fan, so I will try)
8. HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2 (maybe. First was good, but this isn't really an "anticipation" film for me)
I think that is pretty much it for me. I'm probably one of the few that disliked Rise of the Planet of the Apes so a sequel doesn't interest me.
Meh. To each their own.

kids?

how to train your dragon was a great film, might be aimed at kids but lets be honest so are most of the marvel films! GOTG looks very, very kiddy.

Also i know less people who think days of future past looks good as opposed to people that are looking forward to it. it looks like a pretty weak summer. godzilla, spider-man and apes are the only ones im even bothered about seeing.

Edge of Tomorrow

Edge of Tomorrow is my number one anticipated film of the summer. It looks amazing and Cruise and Blunt look in top form for this one.

I am. But I always get more excited for something more original.

That's not to say that a comic book film can't be original. It's just that I always enjoys something more brand new than something already established.

Surprisingly, I choose NEIGHBORS.

X-MEN, SPIDER-MAN, APES, GUARDIANS and TRANSFORMERS are only going to be episodes from never-ending franchises. DRAGON and 22 look like unnecessary continuations to stories that already had closure, and HERCULES looks like an unnecessary take on a character that has already had different takes. GODZILLA actually is necessary to erase the pain that the Emmerich movie caused, but it'll only do that if it's a good movie.

Godzilla tops my list. Then Guardians. I loved HTTYD (it's Dreamworks Animation's best effort in my book) and the sequel looks amazing. One of the best "A Boy and his X" tales, right up there with E.T. and Iron Giant - in addition to boasting jaw-dropping animation and great use of 3D.

Nope

I cannot get excited about the new x-men movie. Just look at the promo image at the top. So corny. Guardians of the galaxy and Godzilla all the way.
