X2 screenwriters back for X-Men: Apocalypse, plus new images of Mystique and Bishop from X-Men: DOFP

12.19.2013

Simon Kinberg wrote the script for X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST on his own, but according to a tweet from Bryan Singer, he'll have some help with the screenplay for the follow-up, X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. The director tweeted that he had a late night story session with Kinberg, and screenwriters Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty.

Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty have both previously worked with Bryan Singer. The two co-wrote X2: X-MEN UNITED, as well as Singer's SUPERMAN RETURNS. Michael Dougherty also wrote and directed the excellent 2007 horror comedy TRICK 'R TREAT. Many consider X2: X-MEN UNITED to be the best X-Men film to date, and having Harris and Dougherty back for X-MEN: APOCALYPSE is a good thing in my opinion. Simon Kinberg is going to be a little busy working on THE FANTASTIC FOUR reboot and building Fox's comic book movie universe, so it makes sense to hire a couple of additional writers to help with the project.

In other X-Men movie news, the French site Les Toiles Heroiques has two new images from X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, featuring Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique and Omar Sy's Bishop, the later with a BFG, and I don't mean the titular character from the Roald Dahl book.

Oh, and since you guys enjoyed yesterday's picture of Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen so much...

Merry Christmas.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST will be in theaters on May 23, 2014, and X-MEN: APOCALYPSE is set to be released on May 27, 2016.

awesome...

i can't wait to see how days of future past molds and changes the continuity, cuz im pretty sure and wishingly hopeful that whatever they change during the time travel events of this film, erases &/or the annoying, crappy plotholes and dumb story arcs from the crap movies of the franchise from the past (X3, wolverine: origins, etc.), molding & repairing the continuity... what do you guys think? you actually think theyre smart enough to do this, or are they just gonna ignore them without

Messiah Complex

Cable getting the last mutant baby before the Genocidal Purifiers or Pseudovillainous Mauraders make it to her. The X-Men arrive to a bloodbath. Two mutants from the future, Cable and Bishop. They both believe Hope Summers is the key to saving the future, Cable thinks she must be saved while Bishop believes she should die for salvation. Cable escape with Hope into the future but his time machine breaks and he can only go forward in time. Bishop pursues Cable, teaming up with the Brood,

Cable escape with Hope into the future but his time machine breaks and he can only go forward in time. Bishop pursues Cable, teaming up with the Brood, teaming up with the severely evil Stryfe and even nuking the majority of the planet at one point in order to minimize the area of the Earth where he would have to search for Cable and Hope.

That is real X-Men. Magneto getting pwned by noob X-Men before he finally kidnaps crybaby Rogue or super exciting human soldiers as the main villain in a movie where the majority of time is spent listening to Wolverine cry don't cut it for me.

Nolan's Batman Trilogy are still the only good super hero movie's that I've seen excluding graphic novels like Sin City.

you DO know that hope is cable's daughter, right? cuz it doesnt really sound like you do, with the explanation you've given... and its not really the way it played out in the comics. but including stryfe would be pretty sweet, though i doubt they'll include 2 major iconic mutant villains, since apocalypse is pretty epic & overflowing with plot, that it might get a little convoluted including stryfe's entire storyline along with it, considering they are just now introducing apocalypse....

I didn't know she was Cable's biological daughter. I thought after a decade of running from Bishop through time and being raised by Cable she considered herself Cable's "daughter".

The Irony is that a lot of the comics were actually kind of crappy. The Twelve was pretty shitty. Apocalypse was a bitch in X-cutioners song and lately he's been cloned more than the first Iron Man movie. He wasn't even that cool in Age of Apocalypse; Dark Beast, Weapon X, and X-Man stole the show for me.
To be honest, he was the most epic in the X-Men Animated series in my opinion. I'm sure in the hands of Chris Nolan he could be something of a Eye of Sauron like presence that actually

and as for what stryfedeath said below, everything he said is the complete opposite of what true x-men fans believe or think.... the comics were incredible, in my personal opinion, and there was never a time i was bored with them or thought they were "shitty" or "crappy".... except maybe the very beginning of its inception, but thats only because of the dated plotlines and dialogue.... all comics were like that back then. but yea, when were talking about 90's x-men, and apocalypse, especially

I don't know why they didn't just cast Idris Elba to play Bishop. Just kidding.

WELL THAT IS BAD NEWS

X2 and Superman Returns were awful with horrible scripts. This does not bode well for that X film at all.

I didn't like either of Singer's movies. Just b/c they are better than Last Stand and X-men Origins doesn't mean they are good. X1 revolved around trying to kidnap Rogue for the majority of the movie and Rogue's teenage angst. X2 was about Wolverine crying about his past, boring villains (a human and a wheelchair hypnotist), and Magneto again.
Apocalypse, Mr. Sinister, Stryfe, Exodus, Bastion and so many powerful Villains and we get Magneto until we're sick of him and humans.
Now he's

Now he's doing sentinels. The sentinels look stupid too. If you're doing DOTFP at least bring some Nimrods from the future instead of some Sentinels that look cornier than Terminator from the 80's. Sweet Visor, is that to cover your eyes Sentinel? Sweet exposed tubes, I'm sure nothing important is running through there. Now Singer's gonna fuck up Apocalypse too.....

while its always nice to see either Mystique, Bishop looks like a forgotten and disgruntled Black Eyed Pea member.

Singer's comment "It's snowing in Egypt", yes it actually did snow there this week. But I think he's also hinting on the fact that they're brain storming explaining the back story to Apocalypse.

He'll probably make mastermold turn into Apocalypse. He's already mixing Bishop's timeline with Apocalypse so who gives a fuck anyways? Bishop is the sentinel and mutant concentration camp future around 50 years from now. Apocalypse is the survival of the fittest mutants rule future around 1000 years from now. Bishop's future is pretty straightforward. Apocalypse comes from a future with Cable and Stryfe and his story is full of awesomeness like Mr. Sinister, and Horsemen like Archangel

He's scrawny, wear's kneepads, wears a blankie and his demeanor doesn't look anything like he has come from a Nazi Germany like future where he was a Jew.
That's just my opinion though. You should check out Wolverine and the X-Men cartoon series or read Messiah Complex TPB. That's the X-Men I know and love.

It's snowing in Egypt?

Hopefully this means they're sticking to Apocalypse's original comic origins. Glad the X2 writers are back as well.

Can't wait to see Bishop kick ass in this. But otherwise I couldn't be any more excited for the next chapter in the X-Men franchise.

I was hoping it would be a one hander so he could shoot energy beams with his other but it looks like he might channel his energy through the gun which is kind of cool. Unless of course the stripes light up telegraphing every shot which would go for style over substance. Lighting up when charged like Havok's costume could be cool, but a pulse would be too easy to read for enemies.
