Yep, Jamie Foxx is Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained!

Jun. 22, 2011by: Dave Davis

Idris Elba fans hoping to see the actor get his big break will have their way -- it will just be in Guillermo del Toro's monster/robot clash PACIFIC RIM, and not Quentin Tarantino's slave epic DJANGO UNCHAINED, as previously buzzed.

It's been rumored for a couple of weeks now, but Deadline says QT has officially selected Jamie Foxx for his Django after reportedly considering Elba and unsuccessfully pursuing Will Smith for the potentially controversial spaghetti Western.

Foxx obviously has some chops, and apparently the Oscar-winner can already ride a horse, so he's got a head start (though I wonder how QT will handle that weird Chia hairline Foxx is now sporting , which would be anachronistically neat -- Jules' wig, maybe?).

The story is set in the pre-Civil War South, and follows a slave named Django who is freed by a German bounty hunter named Schultz (Christoph Waltz, in another meaty QT part). Schultz takes the free man under his wing and trains him in weapons and deception, assisting his violent quest to be reunited with still-enslaved love Broomhilda.

Leonardo DiCaprio will play the film's villain, plantation owner Calvin Candie, with Samuel L. Jackson as his manipulative house servant. The Weinstein/Sony production will hit screens on December 25, 2012.

Extra Tidbit: I give Tarantino the benefit of the doubt when it comes to casting, but I'm not sure I can picture Foxx in this role. What do you think? Disappointed? Glad? Impartial?

I think Foxx will do well. We all know he can act his ass off, and he hasn't really headlined anything in a bit, why not come back strong with a Tarantino flick? Besides, He usually knows how to squeeze every ounce out of his actors anyway. Foxx will nail it im sure(I hope)...

Where's Will Smith?

I'm a fan of Jaime Foxx, albeit normally in comedy roles, so I'm sure this will turn out good. But Will Smith is my favorite actor and seeing him in a QT movie with DiCaprio as the villain would have been awesome.

I'm kinda disappointed, but...

Foxx will be awesome, I was just hoping Will Smith would get in. Was looking forward to him being in a grittier role than the norm...but QT always has entertained me so....OK.

Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Samuel L. Jackson in a Quentin Tarantino movie? I don't even know what to expect. I love the premise, the director, and the cast. Can't wait to see more from this project.

Great casting. I love it every time QT casts a big name actor he hasn't previously worked with in a big role (Brad Pitt, Kurt Russell, De Niro & Keaton in Jackie Brown.) I admit I would have loved either Will Smith or Idris, but Foxx brings unique talents to the role and I'm beyond psyched to see what he and QT come up with.

Not a huge Jamie Foxx fan, but I gotta admit he was great as Ray Charles.

Elba would've been great, but I'm just happy Will Smith isn't running the movie his way. Now, it's just his kids we have to worry about.

QT's casting is nearly as great as his scripts, so I'm sure Foxx will be just fine.
But I REALLY though that Chiwetel Ejiofor would have been ideal for this role after reading the script.

Jamie Foxx is so much better a choice than Will Smith or Elba. He just fits better with Tarantino. Now they need to find a role for Britney Spears as the raunchy lil southern belle and we've got a hit on our hands, gentlemen.

OMG!!!

I'm SOOOOOOO DISAPPOINTED right now. I don't dislike Foxx but I don't really care for him either so this news is so crappy. But, in any case, it's a Quentin Tarantino film and hopefully it will be Pulp Fiction good and not Death Proof bad. Yet, with Foxx in the lead, this film is leaning towards the latter. :o(

I can't stand Jamie Foxx, i think he is so arrogant and obnoxious. i'm still excited to see it because the greatness of Dicaprio outweighs the lameness of Foxx.

Still wish it was..

Michael K. Williams. I personally think he makes everyone else that was being considered for the role look like an extra on "That's So Raven." That being said, I understand that the studio wants a bankable star and trust QT with his casting so I'm sure Foxx'll be great. I'll always wonder what Michael K. Williams would have done with it though. Find a role for him somewhere in this film damn it!

Like everyone else, I would have preferred Smith (or Elba, but apparently that was never happening), but Foxx can act, and Tarantino has a knack for getting really good performances out of his actors. I have faith.

As much as I dislike Foxx as a person and a comedian and a musician I think his acting is malleable enough that QT could do great things with him. I'd rather see Elba but this is a step above Will Smith at least.

Dammit...

Although Foxx can act(we all know this), I really wanted to see Smith in this role. He would have been awesome. It would have been nice to see Will Smith in a movie that is Hard "R". It would have been a win for everyone. Hopefully, Foxx will pull this off, but I am still excited because the story is awesome!

Ehhhhhh, just not crazy about any of the casting. Good actors, but Dicaprio and Jackson are always Dicaprio and Jackson to me, and Jamie Foxx ... I mean he was good in a couple movies, but it'd be nice to see QT do with a cast what he did in Pulp. Something closer, anyway.

I would be happy with either 3 choices. So I'm perfectly okay with Foxx. The guy has talent and he can act, plain and simple. And he has a pretty decent filmography: Jarhead, Collateral, Any Given Sunday, ..etc.

Not sure why people keep calling him a douche. I haven't seen any evidence to support it. Even still, isn't this the place where people separate actors' careers from their personal life and continue to support them?.. i.e. Mel Gibson.

Part of me wanted Dave Chappelle. I'm sure there's a great dramatic performance in him - would make for even greater comeback than Foxx.

While I have faith that QT can bring out the best in Foxx, I'm hoping for a "creative differences" dispute to brew between the two -- and cast Django from scratch again.

Michael K. Williams, anyone?

I was hoping for Smith to do it, but oh well. Foxx will be great. Surprised by all the Foxx hate though. What the hell did he do to deserve it? The guy has a huge amount of talent. Music, films, and stand- up.

Who Cares

Everybody said "What can QT do with Brad Pitt?" and look how that turned out. Foxx is also, I might add, an Academy Award winning actor, so let's at least reserve judgement until we see a trailer first.

While I would have preferred Elba, I'm elated to see Smith isn't a part of this anymore. I love QT, but my intense dislike of Smith probably would have been distracting, had I decided to even see the flick.
I'm not the biggest Foxx fan, but I'm sure QT can get some strong work out of him...and with support from Waltz and DiCaprio, I can't help but be excited.

however Quentin never disappoints, so ill have to wait and see

"Chia hairline"?

Um...you do realize that he's black, and that black men's hair naturally looks this way...right?

As for the casting...not a big fan of Foxx's. I guess Quentin's decision to cast him can be blamed on the a-a-a-a-a-a-alcohol.

Nobody's hairline "naturally" looks that way. Unless you think this looks "natural":

It's certainly a bit neat for the mid-1800s.

I was rooting for Will Smith, JohnLocke, because I think Q.T. directing Smith would be pretty interesting, if not incredible. I get what you are saying, but I disagree just because in 7 pounds he PROVED he can get lost in a role. I think he just needs that one epic to finally prove to people he CAN be more than just "Will Smith playing _____" and I felt like Q.T. could do that.

With that being said, I'm sure Smith felt the material too racially driven and controversial and Smith doesn't

With that being said, I'm sure Smith felt the material too racially driven and controversial and Smith doesn't gravitate to that stuff, but Jamie Foxx obviously does.

I am happy with the decision, but with all big names already cast, I sort of wished they would've cast an unknown, or someone like Idris who isn't as big. They still would've had enough star power and the draw of it being a QT film to attract an audience WITHOUT having a big name attached in the lead.

I'm cool with it though. I trust QT and his casting.
