Yet more elderly violence in the new trailer for the Bruce Willis action flick Red

Jul. 22, 2010by: Dave Davis

I'm still conflicted about the playful tone of the ensemble action flick RED, but I'm warming to it. The sight of regal Oscar-winner Helen Mirren on the Ma Deuce can do that.

The movie is (loosely) based on a Warren Ellis espionage comic miniseries, and involves a retired CIA agent who gets flagged for elimination thanks to the government secrets in his hairless cranium. The movie adds in a group of fellow former operatives who help him out.

The new trailer has arrived to coincide with the cyclone of Comic Con (the original trailer can be found HERE). You can catch up with our Comic Con coverage of the movie RIGHT HERE!

RED comes from director Robert Schwentke (FLIGHTPLAN, THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE) and also features Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich, Richard Dreyfuss, Karl Urban, Brian Cox, Ernest Borgnine, Julian McMahon and Mary-Louise Parker.

I love you Helen Mirren...

Especially when you wield a large automatic weapon!

Hahaha

The Ernest Borgnine cameo cracked me up. Had no clue he was in this. Can't wait for this. Hope my wife looks half as good as Mirren at that age.

@That Zupe

Read his post again. He WAS saying that The A-Team and The Losers didn't take themselves too seriously. I'm surprised I enjoyed both films for exactly that reason. It played to their benefit. Not quite action-comedies but still enough humour.

I agree, I immediately thought Red had a Losers-vibe to it during the trailer.

PS - Angry Malkovich ftw.

The_Soloist really?

Are you being serious? The Losers and The A-Team took themselves to serious? Yea that flying a tank thing is really Serious, and damn them Losers for their over comical bad guy.

Red looks like it oculd be alot of fun. Seems like the year of group action movies.

Went to the Con panel yesterday...

My two cents:

-Willis came out to quite a few boos. And a WHOLE LOT of people laughed/groaned at that shooting step out of the car bit in the trailer. But he was hilarious on the panel and won the crowd over towards the end.
-Urban was really cool with the audience and I hope he gets bigger roles in the future.
-I wanna nail both Mirren and Parker.
-Preferably BEFORE Parker gets baked because it certainly looked like she was at the panel.
-Not that I got anything against anybody getting

-I'm all for comic writers/illustrators getting their payday, but in all honesty, Ellis' answer to a fan's question about the integrity of the novel and how it would measure up in the film: "They just gave me a whole lot of money!!!" Just made him sound like a whore.
-And uh, other than Malkovich and Mirren, the movie looks a step above MEH.

That is all.

People boo'd Willis? Did I miss the news of him doing something really, really bad or are people there just completely fucking retarded?

I'd love to meet/be present with this guy among a few others and can't imagine having anything other than respect for him if it happened. Kids really think too much of themselves today.

Awesome, but...

that shot of Willis coming out of the spinning cop car looks like crap. That's the only thing that ruined this otherwise awesome trailer! Hope they fix that later.

Great Trailer

This was a great trailer. Everything I have seen from this movie has been great and is really making me anticipate this movie even more. I love action movies like this, just fun and doesn't take themselves that serious (i.e. The Losers, The A-Team). It also looks like the cast is having a great time in this movie, which is always entertaining to see as the viewer. The last bit with Malkovich in th trailer was awesome, "Old Man?".
