Yo Joe! Bruce Willis in talks to star as Joe in GI Joe sequel

4 years agoby:

As was widely rumored, producers of GI JOE 2: RETALIATION had their eye on Bruce Willis to star as General Joe Colton, the original G.I. Joe, in the upcoming sequel. Willis' name was bandied about back when The Rock was confirmed as starring and the actor has been considering the offer ever since only just now agreeing to star.

Willis joins a cast that probably should've starred in the first GI JOE movie that includes the aforementioned Rock, the returning Channing Tatum, RZA, Ray Stevenson and Adrianne Palicki.

The Hollywood Reporter is saying that filming on JOE 2 begins later this month but The Rock has been tweeting from the set, including this photo of him shooting a big-ass gun.

With Willis coming in this late in the game, I'm curious exactly how substantial the Joe Colton role is. He was retired in the comics and he'll obviously be yanked out of retirement but will he be in action? Chillin' in the back and just directing our Joes like Dennis Quaid in the last film?

JOE 2, which has director Jon M. Chu behind the camera, hits theaters on June 29th, 2012.

why does this article read like he's already been cast?

what's weird is this article reads like Willis is confirmed to be in the film??? no where else have i read that willis has agreed to be added to this cast, or is involved with the film other than talks being more "serious"...so why dos this article read like he's ALREADY BEEN CAST?

Codename: Speed Bump

The Joe that's 3 days to retirement until he gets paired with a young, African-American, upstart rookie that's also part psychic and can "hear" all of Speed Bump's racist remarks that he never vocalizes.
Shit, maybe I should be writing this script.

The first one was ok, but I probably would have skipped the sequel. Throw in Rock and Willis and I'm back in.

New agent??

Bruce been making some bad decisions lately, anyone else see the trailer for the movie he did with 50cent, looked awful and DTV in september. Bruce needs to work with a director that has a vision, Tarantino give Bruce a call!

The real key will be do they treat it as an effective reboot, keeping Tatum but largely ignoring the previous movie. Then I might just give it a shot.

I mean, objectively speaking, having never bothered with Stephen Somers movie...Bruce Willis, the Rock, RZA, and Ray Park in a G.I. Joe movie? Nice.

The cast finally looks like what I always imagined my GI Joes would be when I played with them as a kid - all except for Tanning Chatum.

It looks like this sequel could possibly be moving in a different direction than the original. Granted, you still have Channing Tatum speaking like an asshole for 2 hours, but The Rock, Bruce Willis, Ray Stevenson and Arnold Voosloo are all upgrades, and they got rid of Mr. Wayans. I'd rather see a preview and hear some word of mouth about the script before I invest some excitement in this, but it can't possibly be worse than the first one.

I'd be down...

Wow, The Rock and John McClane...who cares if the movie sucks. It's be worth it just to see those two together...
