You can bring Dredd 3D and its special brand of justice home this coming January 8th

DREDD 3D's mediocre box office veritably broke my little fanboy heart.  For a film I so loved, one that actually completely lived up to the enormous level of hype to which it had been vaulted by months and months of anticipation, to crumble away in such a miserably short time? I still can't decide if it makes me sad or mad, but either way it was crime.

This is probably about 1% hyperbole, by the way.  Maybe 2%.  I truly loved every single thing about this film, from the spot-on acting that was at turns terrifying and unexpected and exciting to the Cliff Martinez-quality score to the visceral and unforgivingly vicious violence to the smart and well-paced script to the tight editing and measured momentum.   It was also, to my mind and without a doubt, the best melding of comic book source material and genuinely good genre filmmaking we've seen in at least the last five years.

Thankfully I won't have to wait much longer to rewatch it in all its genre-honoring glory, as DREDD 3D is all geared up and ready to release through the mediums DVD/Blu-ray, Digital Download, On Demand, and Pay-Per-View on January 8th, 2013.  You can pick up the 3D Blu-ray for $39.99 and the DVD for $29.95.

These special features are marked "subject to change" in the press release, but I imagine that's more a precautionary measure rather than a legitimate concern.

3D Blu-ray and DVD special features:

- "Mega-City Masters": 35 Years of Judge Dredd" featurette
- "Day of Chaos: The Visual Effects of Dredd 3D" featurette
- "Dredd" featurette
- "Dredd's Gear" featurette
- "The 3rd Dimension" featurette
- "Welcome to Peachtrees" featurette
- Dredd Motion Comic Prequel

Specs and such:

- Run Time: 95 minutes
- Blu-ray Closed Captioned: English SDH
- DVD Closed Captioned: English
- Subtitles: English and Spanish
- Blu-ray Format: 1080P High Definition 16x9 Widescreen (2.40:1)
- DVD Format: 16x9 Widescreen (2.40:1)
- Blu-ray Audio Status: 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio Optimized for 11.1 Neo X, Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital and English 2.0 Dolby -Digital DVD Audio Status: English and Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital

Extra Tidbit: For once I actually enjoyed a movie's use of 3D. So that's cool too.

It's never that expensive. When it is released go to Target or Walmart and it will be much cheaper.

I want a sequel!

If they ever make a gritty Star Wars movie focusing on Bounty Hunters, the guy who directed this film would be the perfect choice.

I can't wait.

I was looking so forward to this movie even before it got all this hype. Of course, the hype maximized my excitement for it. It came out, I didn't have a chance to go see it right away. 3 weeks after it came out, it was already gone from the theaters in my town. I couldn't believe it. Can't wait for this to hit shelves.

I always hate to see a movie actually live up to its hype only to not get the recognition, and you're right- this was definitely good enough a movie to really feel a little more burned by that than usual. We asked for good genre flicks, we start getting them, BAM only the "fanboys" go and it's out to pasture (or bluray/dvd) in a month...it's weird we can make a movie seem like it has the potential to be the next big thing in a very mainstream sense, but at the end of the day a million people

Or maybe mainstream audiences are just skewing really strangely these days, hard to put a finger on a real reason..reminds me of Warrior, great fucking picture, EXTREMELY mainstream and critically lauded- BOMB. The love that one didn't get in theaters not only truly surprised me (not a genre film at all, very highly praised, oscar buzz, fairly big cast, MMA..etc.) but it made me sad enough to almost make me cry when I read the article on here the monday after it was released, practically begging people to give it a shot..i have NEVER seen that here and i've been frequenting this place since 99.. (I might have been less emotional if i just hadnt been thinking about the movie all fresh and what not haha) . So it's hard to say what the issue really is...probably price honestly but isn't that everyone with everything these days? ha.
Loved this so much btw, will buy day one for sure.

BTW- Karl Urban is a fucking badass and pretty much rapes the memory of Stallone's Dredd all up and down this joint. If you haven't seen it and you aren't putting the pieces together with all these comments yet...FIND A WAY TO SEE THIS SHIT!

Why over prices?

Why is the blu ray ad 3d DVD over priced by $10-15

Dredd was the best film of the year, it's a shame that no one saw it.
