You'd be hard-pressed to find more characters in this Age of Ultron poster

02.24.2015

marvel-avengers-age-of-ultron-banner

It's almost that time for everyone's favorite super heroes to stand alongside each other in one of the biggest cinematic events of the year.  With AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON hitting theaters on May 1st, a photoshopped frenzy of friendlies has arrived!  Marvel has released a brand new poster featuring the titular team and enough sizing inconsistencies to shake an Ultron at!

marvel-avengers-age-of-ultron-poster-joss-whedon-robert-downey-jr.-chris-hemsworth-mark-ruffalo-chris-evans-scarlett-johansson-jeremy-renner-james-spader-samuel-l.-jackson

I'm pretty indifferent towards this poster. I mean, I suppose it's better than a giant red A, but the size of all the characters just throws me the hell off. Then we have The Vision, just chillin' behind a J.J. Abrams lens flare. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter. We don't see movies because of their posters and Joss Whedon knows how to write some compelling material for these characters. In a little more than 2 months' time, here's hoping we have another great comic book film on our hands!

I've always wondered why can't the characters keep their secret identities? I guess they're smarter in Marvel, whereas people in DC still be like: "Clark Kent can't be Superman, cause if he takes his glasses off, he can't see." (See also Mystery Men)

Yeah that's not too good. As someone said below, Marvel should be capable of creating some great artwork.

While the poster is a bit of a clusterfuck, I am happy for one thing, They continue to keep the wraps on Vision to a degree and I love that.

This would be so much cooler if Iron Man and Captain America had on their masks and Thor was wearing a helmet. Honestly, I do not need to see Hemsworth's flowing blonde hair anymore put on your helmet please. It is good news that Mackie is in this, I hope him and Cheadle have more than just an extended cameo and that we actually get to see them in action as Falcon and War Machine respectively.

Looking forward to the movie, enjoyed the hell out of the trailers and teasers, but this poster is just plain horrible. From a professional point of view (and as pointed out by others) the lighting is not universal, which makes it looks like some fanboy slapped it together in his basement. I can understand the "unite against danger" and "we're surrounded" aspects the poster is going for, but why the hell would everyone just lineup and face one direction? Just terrible.

I love Marvel but they

I love Marvel but they do make the most generic posters. After decades of awesome comic book covers, why not give us something really original? I mean they already established the whole Pinocchio "got no strings" theme. Put a giant Ultron on there playing all the Avengers like puppets. Gotta be better than this.

What a cluster

It's odd that they added Atwell and Elba's name to the poster, yet Don Cheadle and Andy Serkis are in the trailer but not on the poster. One could easily guess the outcome of those characters based on that.
Even stranger is having Danny Elfman's name on the poster. Might they be bringing back his hulk theme, or dare I say Spider-man theme?

Quite an uninspired poster for what is suppossed to be one of summer's biggest movies, then again it's not like it needs a poster to sell itself in the first place.

Do you notice something? No one's butt is facing the poster viewer. I wonder whether that design was on purpose. Clearly, this poster does not lack Vision.

However, Hulk doesn't have a shirt on. I think that that is immodest. Also, Thor is showing armpit while holding high a phallic symbol. Where is Agent Carter when you need her?

I look forward very much to the next Avengers movie. Everyone should just go and have a great time. I intend to.

I like how they pretty much silhouetted Vision in the Sun so that you can't see what he looks like.

Well that's kind of an insane mess... maybe crazy is what they were going for, what with Ultron's personality and all, but using images that don't look like they were shot under the same conditions to make the lighting more uniform is the biggest issue with these types of photomontage designs. It's like providing suitable photography for the poster designers is an afterthought or something. They would do well to get some of Marvel's cover artists to plan the compositions, then shoot the cast

I'm sure it's part of a contractual thing-a-majig but the only face that is not really shown, kinda, is Mark Ruffalo's. Why not have the characters in their masks, if they wear them? If you are truly setting up for Civil War then wouldn't that make some sense? Comic book cover style poster. Getting ready to battle a serious threat that surrounds you on all sides? Suit up! And give Thor his helmet!

Also, Fury seems to have gotten a new patch. Halloween costume store visit.

That's not a lens flare, Sean.

I think it is just a very poor metaphor of The Vision as being the light of salvation for them.

Poster is something we've seen plenty of times before with other movies.

I've been wondering this. It doesn't make sense. Unless Captain America isn't in as much of the film as we're expecting?

Or it's a fake out to make you think Thor is a bigger character this time (and then goes AWOL?)

Scorpio77 - SLJ always gets the AND credit (except when his appearance is a secret) - so there no surprise there.

Otherwise they generally kept the same credit order as the first Avengers film - except for switching Hemsworth and Evans, which seems off considering the characters they play.

Marvel, please.

You you know, for a comic book company, you'd think they'd be a little creative with their movie posters. Instead of mostly generic, floating heads/bodies, typical Hollywood movie posters. They have an opportunity to break from the Hollywood mold and actually create posters that are unique and evocative of the movie they represent.

Instead they give us this Photoshop diarrhea.

Not that it affects my anticipation or expectations of the film in any way, but that is one cluttered-looking poster. The ones for Guardians were a step in the right direction. This one's just kinda bland.

The only two in the Avengers who even have masks are Stark and Rodgers, and neither of their identities are secret anyway. Plus you have to think about Marketing - way more people will be exposed to this poster than will see the film, so they're not gonna waste time hiding these actors' faces in their masks on the poster.

Thor and Hawkeye don't have headgear?

You're right though, without Downey and Evans's face on the poster, I can't imagine anyone would even give this indie flick a shot.

Yeah, Hawkeye hasn't yet in the films, and Thor barely ever wears his. He didn't at all in the first film. So there ya go.

And it's not about what I think is smart or what you do. Still doesn't change the fact that the movie marketers want to show the full actors' faces on the posters and in the trailers, even when they're in their suits. I'm not advocating for it, I'm just saying that's what the studios want. No need to be a smartass.

What fun would it be if I weren't a smart ass? Don't be mad, I'm just giving ya shit. I sometimes forget I'm dealing with strangers.

Wasn't a big fan but at least Dredd committed to the costume all the way through, so good on Dredd.

It still bugs me to see a superhero without a mask for the sole reason of showing the actor's face. Especially Iron Man. If he's in battle (which I assume he is in the poster) the last thing he needs to do is go without his helmet.

I know it's almost sacrilege so speak ill of Marvel here but...

This poster is bad. Just bad bad and more bad. What a bland and uninspired mess. But if the goal was to cram as much as possible into a single image then they succeeded. This looks like an $8 poster made for Target stores

Epic! I think this poster really pops. And the official addition of Anthony Mackie is great news. I've been waiting for something from the marketing for this movie that really catches my eye. Maybe I'm alone in this, but while the trailers have been great, I still don't think they were as emotional or well-edited as those for the first film.

Super psyched. I don't know much about Vision, but he will hopefully have a good amount of screen time. He is the one I am most excited to see because he is the new guy to me.

Other than

the original captain america poster where he is standing there with his shield looking down with rubble flying in the air with the word AVENGE, Marvel has been pretty lazy with their posters. It's always just people standing there looking off in the distance in random poses.

and now this avengers one. I dont mind it, they are just pretty uninspired and by the book, thats all. and yes I know each movie has a few awesome posters but they arent the official or teaser posters for the most part. The kind that is diseminated to the mass public.
