Young Justice to be a live-action teen drama show on CW?

Dec. 2, 2013by: Paul Shirey

Let's approach this one with the ol' rumor stick, but it's definitely worth investigating.

Bleeding Cool is reporting that DC Entertainment is developing a live-action series based on Cartoon Network's animated series, Young Justice, which features Superboy, Robin, Miss Martian, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Artemis, Zatanna, Speedy, and Rocket (amongst a host of rotating characters), all of which have some tie to a "grown-up" counterpart (i.e. Batman, Green Arrow, Flash, etc.). Both Superboy and Miss Martian are said to be "the leads of The Team."

Here's the lowdown:

"Bleeding Cool has been led to believe by a recently-reliable source that the CW is developing another live action teen drama/romance series with a superhero twist, based on the Young Justice cartoon, games and comics, being prepped for 2015."

If true, this feels like a bit of overkill, no? With DC trying to gain a foothold in the feature film market with MAN OF STEEL and BATMAN VS SUPERMAN, why are they spending so much time playing on the small screen, particularly when they continue to swear that the characters WON'T transition to the big screen? With Arrow already playing exceptionally and the plan to bring The Flash into the mix with his own show (as well as the recently announced Hourman) it feels like a bit much. On the other hand, perhaps DC is just trying to establish dominance in at least one market, even if it's TV. Only men in suits have the answer.

We'll watch this one closely...

Young Justice was awesome! For an animated show it was better than any other live action super hero show tha thas come out in the past decade. The show itself tackled all of the same things a live-action teen drama would have taken on. Except that since it was animated the stories weren't hindered by budgets on what they could and could not do. If WB is so enamored with the Young Justice idea, just continue the cartoon series. That show will be better than anything they try to put into a

I know they'll be trying to mimick the success of Arrow given it's increasing popularity. But the reason why Arrow works is because it's confined to one city. YJ will need to visit numerous cities and countries, just wouldn't translate as well to live-action.

I loved Young Justice, I think it's the closest animated TV offering from DC to the DCAU that concluded with Justice League Unlimited, but there was a lot of angst. I can only imagine that there'll be even more angst if this becomes a "teen drama". But man, it will be really exciting to have a live-action Robin, Miss Martian, Artemis, Speedy, Kid Flash, Superboy, Aqualad and all the rest of the gang. We'll have to see if they can pull it off; but I'm pretty sure it won't be the same as if they

It really was going interesting places and I (mostly) love the character design on the show.

I kind of wished they had spun off Legion of Super-Heroes from their Smallville appearance. I love the concept of young superpowered people getting together on their own to support a common goal. Also, whatever happened to the Blue Beetle TV series? Did that already happen?

Great Idea!

I think it's pretty cool that DC is creating a lot of TV projects. Why not? The best writing is on television now anyways. Marvel failed tremendously with SHIELD because that show sucks. DC's TV shows so far have been really good. Smallville was great, Arrow is awesome and I'm sure The Flash is gonna be good as well.

I'll give you Arrow - they definitely hit their stride with that show because it is awesom. But Smallville was far from good. That had so many issues with it on a season by season basis. I'm surprised it lasted 10 seasons.

But I can only assume Flash will be good, especially if they utilize the same writers as Arrow. Frankly, since WB is so stupid with getting their properties onto the big screen, they might as well setup a strategy now to dominate TV. Leave Batman and Superman for the

Leave Batman and Superman for the big screen and throw everything else on TV. They can even go the Marvel route and do a once a year mini-series to feature all TV shows in one place.

I loved the Young Justice comics in the 90s. Same goes for the awesome animated series. But I just don't know about this. I liked Smallville for the most part and Arrow is pretty good. But like everyone else I'd much rather see a third season of the cartoon than a live action version. If Warner Bros. likes the YJ concept so much they should just find a new network to put the animated series on.

Why not just bring back the cartoon?

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed YOUNG JUSTICE; I thought they canned it just as they were really kicking the plots into high gear. As long as they have the same writers, then a live-action show will be good. I have a bad feeling, though . . .

Surprised this hasn't happened sooner. Its so in their wheelhouse. I have a feeling they won't pull the trigger on the "sidekick" members and just go for the Teen Titan originals.

Bring back Young Justice!

I can't care less for a live action show, I want the Young Justice cartoon back! It was an incredible show and should be a template for every superhero shows (animated or live action).

It was a great show. It was just as good as B:TAS, S:TAS, JL, JLU and Batman Beyond. I'm still pissed it gone.

Could be cool I guess, but I would rather DC just focus on their films instead and establish a proper universe where all of their superheroes fit together. I mean I would love to hear more news about them trying to get a Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern 2 film made instead of all of these television shows they're trying to make.

I like CW's Arrow but I doubt if Young Justice should be approached as teen drama. If it can be a hybrid between Arrow and Smallville, I think things should be okay.

I would prefer more like Arrow. I hated Smallville. That was way too cheesy.
