Updated: Your new Batman is: Ben Affleck!!!

Aug. 22, 2013by: Paul Shirey

UPDATE:Full press release from WB is below

With all the speculation, back and forth, rumors, and hopes, Warner Bros. has settled on their new Batman and it's none other than Ben Affleck!

Some had hoped that Christian Bale would return to the role, while others felt that Karl Urban was the best choice (according to our Cast This he was the big winner), however the Oscar winning Affleck will be taking on the cowl instead and I have to say it's actually an outstanding choice and one I'd never even considered.

Here's the official press release from WB:

Ending weeks of speculation, Ben Affleck has been set to star as Batman, a.k.a. Bruce Wayne.  Affleck and filmmaker Zack Snyder will create an entirely new incarnation of the character in Snyder’s as-yet-untitled project—bringing Batman and Superman together for the first time on the big screen and continuing the director’s vision of their universe, which he established in “Man of Steel.”  The announcement was made today by Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, and Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

The studio has slated the film to open worldwide on July 17, 2015.

Last month’s surprise announcement of the new movie featuring both Superman and Batman created a wave of excitement and immediately fueled discussion and debate—among fans as well as in the media—about who would put on the cape and cowl of Bruce Wayne’s alter ego.

Snyder successfully re-imagined the origin of Clark Kent/Superman in the worldwide blockbuster “Man of Steel,” which has earned more than $650 million worldwide to date, and climbing.  The director will now create an original vision of Batman and his world for the film that brings the two DC Comics icons together.

Affleck will star opposite Henry Cavill, who will reprise the role of Superman/Clark Kent.  The film will also reunite “Man of Steel” stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.

In the announcement, Silverman stated, “We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some.  His outstanding career is a testament to his talent and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character.”

Snyder also expressed his excitement about the casting of Affleck, noting, “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman.  He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne.  I can’t wait to work with him.”

Kroll added, “We are so thrilled that Ben is continuing Warner Bros.’ remarkable legacy with the character of Batman.  He is a tremendously gifted actor who will make this role his own in this already much-anticipated pairing of these two beloved heroes.”

Affleck recently starred in the Academy Award®-winning Best Picture “Argo,” which he also directed and produced, earning acclaim and a BAFTA Award nomination for his performance in the film, as well as a number of directing honors.  In 2010, he starred in and directed the hit crime thriller “The Town.”  His recent acting work also includes “The Company Men,” “State of Play,” and “Hollywoodland,” for which he received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor.  Earlier in his career, Affleck starred in and co-wrote (with Matt Damon) “Good Will Hunting,” for which he won an Oscar® for Best Original Screenplay.
The new Super Hero film is being scripted by David S. Goyer from a story he co-created with Zack Snyder.  Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan and Wesley Coller serving as executive producers.

Production is expected to begin in 2014.

The film is based on Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster, and Batman characters created by Bob Kane, published by DC Entertainment.

There were early rumors that Affleck would tackle the planned JUSTICE LEAGUE film a while back and perhaps that was a stepping stone that led to him taking on the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Affleck will join Henry Cavill for Zack Snyders follow-up to MAN OF STEEL in the untitled SUPERMAN/BATMAN film that is slated for release in 2015.

I will now unleash you Kraken's to the strike back below! Let's hear it!

Batman Should be? And Lex should be ?

Most of the people accepting Ben Affleck don't get it..... The REAL main issue with Aflack! Is not his acting ability or his age or anything else.....the problem is that if you don't do plastic surgery on his face and mouth and eyes and get the hair style right.... He cant be batman....and since Ben Afflack! Will always be Ben Afflack...he cannot play batman no matter how good of an actor he is.... I don't care if he knocks it out of the park in acting....I know its Ben freakin Aflack! An

I don't care if he knocks it out of the park in acting....I know its Ben freakin Aflack! An comparing this to Heath Ledger is really stupid....you know why? Heath Ledger was wearing makeup as the Joker part requires....it is the same as John Leguisamo playing the Clown in [link]

This is totally different than that uproar when people were against Heath Ledger playing Joker

And for the record....even though Michael Keaton is my favorite recent Batman...and Christian Bales Batman was good to watch and a good movie....none of them are right for Batman...so far I only accept one person as Batman.....Adam West....imagine him in a more modern suit and more aggressive acting....he IS batman....and He is Batman just like Christopher Reeves IS Superman. Henry Cavil can do good if they Just did one single thing right.....that is Comb his hair exactly like Christopher Reeves Hair.....that is Supermans hair style period! Thats the single reason why I couldnt accept Brandon Routh....and also why I still dont see Cavil as Supes.

My pick for Lex Luthor: Guy Pierce or Billy Zane...highly prefer Pierce since he played with Jim Caviesel and Henry Cavil in Count Of Monte Cristo (im telling you...DC and WB are missing out bigtime)
Batman: Kurt Russel and some actor who I dont know his name but someone mentioned here....he is perfect, but a nice choice would be Jim Caviesel...especially since he played Henry Cavils father in The Count Of Monte Cristo (thats right folks.....Henry Cavil was Alber)

Aquaman: Paul Walker ( he freaking looks like the Superfriends version.......but i rather he grew a beard)

People complained just as much about Heath Ledger and look how that turned out. How about we shut up and wait to see what happens. It can't be as bad as Batman and Robin, given Afleck's passion to stay true to the source material.

If this eventually means that Affleck will be directing the next solo Bat flick I can deal with it. No one thought Ledger was a good pick for Joker and look how he killed it. I am still more worried about the script and directing than Affleck as Batman. Synder and Goyer seem like they are in over their heads

Ahh but what is Dare Devil if not poor, blind Batman?? Im gonna miss Ben Affleck the Oscar caliber writer and director. With this new gig he isn't gonna have time for that anymore. Not with 2-3 Batman films, 2-3 Justice League films, other appearances as Batman in DC films, and all the promoting. He is looking at the next 15 years of his life, easy, poor guy. What was he thinking? So Dare Devil, then Superman, and now he dons the pointy eared cowl. Huh.

The guy can act, he can brood and be charming and he can be in shape. He will be fine as Batman. My biggest concern will be how Batman is written in this film. Comic book version of The Bat is the only acceptable way to go.

AFFLECK!!!

So Affleck has played Superman, Daredevil and now Batman. Seems like Hollywood has a hard-on for Ben to play superheroes. And while he might not have been on the top of everyone's list I think he might be able to pull it off. Not ENTIRELY. But I don't think he'll be absolutely horrible though I expect a lot of chuckling at the first sight/sound of him in the suit or even saying the words "Bruce Wayne' or "Gotham." If he can keep his acting skills on the same level that he had in ARGO and THE

Two Things:

1. Remember when the reactions to news of Mr. Ledger's casting was released? Welp. They were wrong. So be patient before judging.
2. I can't wait to hear his voice!

I was quite shocked to hear this news initially, but I'm coming around to the idea of Ben playing Batman. I think he's at point in his career where can pull this off. If this would have happened 10 years ago I would be completely against it. I still fear for the worst, but I'm very hopeful that this can work out.

wont keep me from seeing the movie, But cant agree with this one. Ben just hast proved to me that he can pull off the emotionally scarred, grizzled veteran that I have heard the Bat will be in this film. Plus, he has an intimidation factor of Zero, which also is kind of a prerequisite for this particular character. He wasnt bad in Daredevil, but they should have gone with another actor. Beating a dead horse at this point, but They should have given Karl Urban at least an audition.....

Just out of interest...

Has this broken the Joblo record for most strike backs? As soon as I heard the news I kinda predicted it would and couldnt wait to read people's thoughts.

To give my 2 cents, I'm still the fanboy who didn't want to see anyone replace Bale this soon but it if it had to happen it had to happen, I genuinely believe that had Afflecks only contribution to acting been Good Will Hunting, The Town and Argo for example then the general consensus would be excited about this casting. I certainly think

The space-time continuum

With the reaction this casting has gotten I sincerely thing we've all crossed into an alternate reality none of us were expecting. Soon we will adjust and come to grips with it all. That being said I can't blame Ben for taking the role. What red blooded man wouldn't want to play freaking Batman!?! Its Batman for crapsakes!!! Its the American equivalent to playing James Bond. I think we'd all give our left nut (and more) to play Bruce/Bats so no one should be mad at Ben for going for it.

Didn't every one get all up in arms when Michael Keaton was cast as Batman? Beetlejuice is Batman?! No!! Then Christian Bale. Isn't he Welsh? Noooo! A foreigner playing Batman!! Those both turned out pretty well. Give it a chance, who knows, the guy does have TWO Oscars.

Safe or payback picture?

Ben Affleck: You're like a child. What've I been telling you? You gotta do the safe picture. Then you can do the art picture. But then sometimes you gotta do the payback picture because your friend says you owe him.

Ben Affleck is cast as Batman after coming off of 'Argo', a movie that won best picture last year. When Christian Bale was cast as Batman in 03, he was coming off of 'Reign of Fire', the worst movie of 2002, and that turned out fine. Relax fanboys, Affleck is a great choice as The Dark Knight.

Come on!

Freakin horrible decision. Out of all the great actors in hollywood, this is the best they can do? Hollywood always tries to shoehorn an actor into a role they do not qualify, after they win an Oscar. Come on guys, take a lesson on how Marvel is setting the stage! GEEEZ!

It's just a zack Snyder movie, it's not like he is the Batman Batman.

Not understanding all the hate for Affleck about this. I think he fits the bill perfectly for who Bruce Wayne/Batman will be, especially where it's a new incarnation of the character and not tied down to Nolan's trilogy at all. He is a definite seasoned actor who has done drama, comedy, and action. As well, he's older and matured which is what I would imagine for a Batman/Superman team up. Keep in mind that everyone shit over Keaton when he was initially chosen to be Batman too and that

My only gripe is this may mean there will be some time before we see him in the director's chair, depending on what his time committment is like to being this new Batman.

I've been letting this sink in and think this could be a good thing. I have always liked Affleck the actor and respect him as a Director. Honestly will need to see a trailer to see if he pulled it off. Understand all negative comments because we're passionate about this kind of thing! I really wonder if the deal he made had something to do with him directing next installment. Either way, surprising news for sure and am curious to see how this works out. One other thought, might be good

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I don't remember when the last time I was this upset about casting news! This is a horrible choice and they are just trying to add a name since Henry was relatively unknown. I wonder if other actors did not want to follow Bale so soon after that trilogy ended. I can see this being like The Incredible Hulk where he wants to put in his 2 cents on everything and change dialog and basically "Help" direct and then he won't be in the next movie or Justice League.

Ben must not want to wrte or direct anything for the next 10 years

He is a good actor, I even liked Dare Devil. But I thought DC was trying to build a cinematic universe like Marvel. This would mean 2-3 stand alone Batman films and2-3 Justice League films. This is a HUGE COMMITMENT from Affleck. He isn't going to have the time to write and direct Oscar caliber films anymore. I see him getting bored after 2 films and wanting out. Like Robert Downey Jr. has with Iron Man. Didn't we see Ben play Superman in Hollywood Land? Weird.

This is just a cash grab for Affleck. He once said that he would never play another superhero again:

I really don't rate him as a actor but his recent director gigs have softened my dislike of the guy(and by the way Argo was highly overrated) but I'm willing to give him a chance.....last chance.

After reading the news I decided to sit back and read what the internet people were saying. A lot of people were trashing it. But most people thought this was the early to mid 2000s again. He is proven a good actor (and director). He will do fine. The one thing I am sceptic of is his voice. The ability to sounding intimidating.

He's a great actor.

People need to stop focusing on a few duff movies. Most actors have done a few crap films.

Wouldn't have been my first choice but I can see him in the suit.

Affleck Has My Vote

This is certainly unexpected but I have full confidence in Affleck to bring his own take to the role. He's a seasoned actor who has made quite the comeback in the last half decade. Sure, he's getting a lot of hate and some already believe this movie to be doomed. I say give the man the benefit of the doubt. It's going to be awesome seeing him square off with Cavill!

Affleck is solid nowadays, he'll be fine

Ten years back he was a joke but at present he's a worthy actor so I don't get the hate. My only problem is I'm not looking forward to the movie at all, I thought "Man of Steel" was super terrible (see what I did there!), could only see this being good if Synder would just go away.

I'm prepared to wait and see...but it'll take something very special for me to get over the fact that Nolan's Batman world will not be part of this universe - a few changes to the third movie and this was more than possible - and having Batman (and incorporating the Arrow tv series)...making them the first super heroes on the scene would have been perfectly fine - the super powered heroes came after.

Bad move

They should have cast an unknown or relatively unknown. For Christsakes he played Daredevil. DAREDEVIL. He has wayyy too much cinematic baggage to put a fresh new spin on the character. Really disappointed.

Yeah. And the Human Torch played Captain America.

He's an actor and a pretty good one - if he has a good script and competent direction. He'll do just fine.

That's a bad comparison. Chris Evans was the only redeeming part of the F4 movies, he's played a superhero before and did it well. Plus we saw his range in movies like Sunshine. Affleck did a TERRIBLE Daredevil, and has NO range. Hence all of the jokes about him doing a "Southie Batman".

By the way, "Just fine" is NOT going to cut it after Nolan's Trilogy.

I admire Bale for remaining a man of word, despite major money offers

I have great admiration for Bale remaining true to his word, despite being offered around $50 million to return as Batman, he remained a man of his word. Which is so rare in Hollywood! I wanted Bale to return, but I respect his decision. Honestly, I was really conflicted about who they picked to play Bruce Wayne/Batman, I was worried they would pick someone too young and inexperienced. Worried they would cast someone for his pretty looks and hope he could pull it off. Personally, I wanted

I have full confidence with Affleck. His rise with his career gives me full confidence in him. In the last few years Ben has excelled greatly as an actor, and he surprised me greatly with how highly talented he is as a filmmaker. He's struggle greatly with his career years ago, when was considered done by most people. Look at where he is now, he has risen tremendously (ironically just like a certain comic superhero). He bounced back to not only win another Oscar, but to film a Best Picture film! I can't see Ben throwing away all he has worked so hard to achieve by accepting a role in which he feels he cannot do. Bale as of right now is still the best Bruce Wayne/Batman, because he played the role differently and he us able to connect with the character. Affleck is more than capable to doing the same with his portrayal. He's playing probably the most important superhero icon in comic books, I can't see him half-assing the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Yes lets think about the children for a sec cause kids are not going to give a shit who plays batman. All they're going to see is superman and batman on big screen for the first time. All this backlash is just going to amp up Ben up even more to do his best which I

PS: THE ACCENTS?

I'm from Boston, born, raised & currently living here. Affleck & Damon are some of the only people who can actually pull off the accents without overdoing it, and yes while most of us don't speak that harshly--the people in those neighborhoods(southie, charlestown, the dot) do talk like that. You wanna talk about the worst though? It's probably Tim Robbins in Mystic River, now that shit was atrocious!

Personally, I'm way more concerned with Zack Snyder. He needs to step up and bring his "A" game with Batman/Superman, as Nolan did with Batman Begins.

People need to take a deep breath......

First - Ben Affleck has come a long way since Daredevil. He's a better actor, and as recently as last February, the director of the Academy Award winner for best picture. But all that aside - even though he probably wouldn't have been on my personal radar to play Batman - can we all just assume that Zack Snyder and Chris Nolan know what they're doing, and after an insanely good Dark Knight trilogy and a pretty good man of Steel, deserve the benfit of the doubt on this one.

I wonder if they are getting A-Listers for the rest of the Bats posse like before or if commish, luscious, Alfred will in this. I assume at least Alfred will

My facebook feed was blown the fuck up this morning, so I had to come here first. A lot of Affleck haters out there, but I'm personally relieved. This movie needed a bonafide movie star and now they got one, I was personally hoping for Brolin, but Affleck is the next best thing. I like Karl Urban a lot, but he just isn't a leading man yet, plus I think he'd make a better villain than batman

Robin Williams as the Joker and

Tom Cruise as Lex Luthor. It doesn't seem far fetched now. Tom Cruise can play Luthor like the guy in Tropic Thunder but without the fat suit. And Bryan Cranston from Breaking Bad can be Commissioner Gordon.

It seems like a division right down the middle. I doubt I could add anything new. I respect Affleck more as a director but his recent performance prove that he has gained significant maturity with age. I am confident he will do the role justice. And who knows? Maybe there's a deal in this somewhere for him to actually direct the JL movie if Snyder doesn't. I'm really sick of people dissing Daredevil though. If you didn't like it chances are you haven't seen the director's cut. The theatrical release was shaved significantly to make it a more marketable length and family-friendly. It comes across kinda silly. The director's cut however is much darker and presents a fuller more impactful story. Its still no masterpiece but if offers the film a fair amount of redemption. Anyway, the same people throwing a fit over Affleck's casting are probably the same ones that questioned Ledger for the Joker or Hathaway for Catwoman. Give it time, I think the majority of us will end up pleased with his performance once we actually see it.

I hope I hope I hope they did screen tests with him in a Batman costume and just didn't talk to him and say 'hey you got the part bud' or something like that....if they did then I'm not too worried, cuz you have to see how a guy is going to look in the Bats costume and see if he can even pull it off. Some peoples faces just don't work ya know......just google dudes in batman costumes and see the majority of people can't fit into the cowl properly....yes I know they will make one to custom fit

Affleck has started to hit his stride as an actor the last couple of years and I predict that he will confound expectations and prove himself worthy of the role.

This could be amazing...

Anyone remember when Michael Keaton was cast as Batman? I know I am showing my age a little but that was nuts. I feel like Ben will be amazing and be very similar to how MK played it. He was the only guy that was a great Bruce and a great Batman. Ben is easily a good Bruce, I just haven't seen him in much where he fights hand to hand. Even Daredevil he didn't do much hand to hand stuff and it was mostly a stunt double anyways.

I have high hopes for Ben, I think he is a cool guy and I am

I am thinking they are doing this because of the New 52. It just hit me that Superman IS brand new in that and younger than Bruce, who IS already established, been around for a while and was pretty much in the "Urban Legend" phase still until Darkseid did his first attack which brought the JL together.

Ya know....maybe Dick Grayson is also already a part of this world and we are finally going to get Nightwing on screen?

Plus, everyone....and I mean EVERYONE hated the casting of Michael

Lazy casting

Maybe someone has said this in comments below but this movie doesn't need name actors because the characters are so well known and are going to draw an audience themselves. So why they cast Affleck, come oooon. I don't mind Affleck but he ain't batman. Should have let someone more gritty faced and sounding no-name try this out. I don't think there's any hope for Asylym- video game type batman movies now in the near future. That sucks!

Now I do believe Ben could get mark hamil(however its spelled) to play the joker. That would be awesome. But it would still have Ben affleck in it. So I will always be skeptical. Armegedon, pearl harbor, GIGLI

that is about the dumbest thing i've heard in a loooong time! Mark Hamil would be thrilled to be asked to play The Joker in an AAA Hollywood film....notice that he's been doing voice acting and not any real acting in quite a loooong time.....I don't think he would need any convincing for that doood!! hhhhmmmm let me see, dwindling money from all the voice acting I've been doing or make a zillion bucks in a HUGE MOVIE.....Tough one....now i see where your coming from

In Two Words OH FUCK!

The guy who starred in the pretty bad Daredevil film, winner of multiple Razzies, who said he wouldent ever do another movie with an explosion. Could they have found a worse serious actor for the role.
Seriously I would have preferred Brad Pitt or Bradley Cooper If they were to cast a more established actor. I cant imagine Affleck being any better than George Clooney . If nothing else I cant wait to here what Kevin Smith says because If theres two things he loves its Affleck and Batman.

Listen to him on this movie BEFORE this happened.

It will be hard for everyone to accept the new Batman, no matter who he is, since we're used and really liked Bale's portraying of the character... No matter who fills he's shoes has a lot of weight to pull on his back !!! I'm not going to prejudge the casting of Affleck... let's wait and see first how good or bad he's going to be !!! (The only thing I hold against Affleck is his "voice" )

I actually thought that Keaton was the best Batman so far. Bale just had the better movies.

Both of 'em were brilliant in Batman/Bruce Wayne role !!! I agree that Bale had better movies but i think that Bale fitted better the comic book's Batman !!! Both of them also had an advantage to starr beside some great actors portraying the villain's (Jack 'fucking' Nicholson, Walken, De Vitto, Neeson, Murphy, Ledger and Hardy) ... Anyway cheers !!!

my thoughts on this

1 why ben Affleck?

2 more so batman has been the biggest 3 movie comic franchise in the comic world. Avengers was the highest but I am speaking of the trilogies - spider man, iron man, xmen. They arent making a new batman set of movies with ben Affleck, they are going to introduce him as batman in the new superman movie and it will be as if the first 3 batmans with Christian bale never happened. I get going with a new story and leaving the old batmans behind but maybe start with a

3 its sad as it will ruin batman again much like George clooneys version which wasnt his fault but once it gets too cartoonish its silly and this will have to be cartoonish because batman could never beat a superman. Thats why dark knight was so good. it was basically the movie HEAT in costumes. It could in a crazy world happen. Marvel knows how to walk the fine line with comic movies and real life feel sometimes. superman tried to hard to be real life and become absurd with violence and explosions, it should of just went hokey comic feel the entire time. you can only cross that line with something like iron man because its also half comedy.

Affleck is an accomplished actor in many ways and also a terrific director. But I'm having a hard time digesting this. I'm gonna miss Bale. I was a bit young when Keaton was Batman, so to me, Bale is my Batman. I'll reserve judgment for now, because I do respect Ben Affleck.

Nice how in the press release they glossed over Daredevil and Gili.
I loved Argo and I loved Hollywoodland, but Affleck is usually a great actor in projects he directs or writes because he's invested in the role. I think it's a mistake, but really they could have chosen nearly anybody and none of us would have been happy unless his last name was Bale. After all most if not all of us thought Nolan was nuts for casting Ledger as the Joker initially, and look how that turned out. Guess we

As for the casting, I don't agree with this at all.

Someone below called Christian Bale a "pussy" for "having a stick up his ass." In regards to that, heaven forbid Christian Bale have integrity as an actor and turn down a $50 Million paycheck. His story was done, over with and I respect him more for not signing up because a of a huge paycheck. However, Nolan is attached as Executive Producer so hopefully he has a lot of control over the character of Batman and how he's portrayed in this film

At the end of the day Ben Affleck is an exponentially better actor then his days of Matt Murdock and Daredevil. As a whole that movie sucked, I think every actor involved tried to make the best of a bad situation. I don't think Daredevil falls solely on the shoulders of BA. However, I'm simply not convinced he'll be able to pull of Batman. Not due to his acting skill but due to his style of acting. It's going to be an interesting road ahead, and it's going to be extremely difficult for us to not compare Affleck to Bale but I think you need to treat them as their own stories and their own universes.

To be fair, I'd love to see the person behind the account call Christian Bale a pussy to his face. People are pretty tough when they're nothing but an IP address.

Okay, this is going to be a looong comment...

Right, as I've already said below, I was hoping for Karl Urban - but I like Ben Affleck. He's not my immediate choice for the role... but then he's not my last either.

At the end of the day, he's just an actor who's been cast in a role. People need to stop hating on the guy, he doesn't deserve it. If he's reading any of this his soul must feel shredded.

Give the guy a chance. As others have rightfully mentioned below people couldn't "see it" when either Michael Keaton or Heath Ledger

Give the guy a chance. As others have rightfully mentioned below people couldn't "see it" when either Michael Keaton or Heath Ledger were cast in their roles. Especially in the case of Ledger, he's now surely the benchmark to set future Joker's and it's going to be a brave actor who will take that role on.

The reasons for giving Affleck the benefit of the doubt? Forget the actor, look at the team around him!

I loved The Dark Knight trilogy. Despite the fact I cannot stand Christian Bale. He actually puts me off films. I found his growling Batman tedious and his Bruce Wayne unlikable. I still rate The Dark Knight as one of the best superhero films. Look at the talent around him - Caine, Freeman, Oldman, Ledger etc... ultimately Christopher Nolan and his team (David S Goyer, Jonathan Nolan, Emma Thomas & Charles Roven) brought us an epic franchise.

Moving on the Man of Steel... it's the same team, just now with Zack Snyder at the helm. I loved it. In my opinion it's the best solo superhero film out there. Admittedly, I've only seen it once, and it's possible the it may lose something on the small screen with repeat viewing. Time will tell. Again, a great cast, Adams, Fishburne etc and may I add, in a similar fashion to Bale, I'm not a fan of Russell Crowe, he annoys me... but again, loved the film in spite of this.

I think the team have done enough to earn our trust and respect... just go with their choices. Slate the film once you've seen it and have a valid opinion.

That's not to say I don't have some concerns, but tbh, that concern isn't with the casting. I'm actually now quite interested to see how Affleck is going to fit into the MoS world. My worries are that the studio is rushing it. They seem so desperate to get a Justice League film... realised they can't make that work just yet so have gone with the next best thing a Superman/Batman film. Now, I understand this, but still it feels rushed. If Christian Bale was still the current Batman, and that film series hadn't been closed off then I would have said, sure, put Bale and Cavill together, that would be cool. But WB seem so against the idea of 'copying' Marvel, that they're missing - what made The Avengers film special, was the build up. There was an anticipation to see Downey Jr as Iron Man, with Evans' Captain America, and Hemsworth's Thor all together. You'd seen them solo, now lets see them interact. (As much as I think Ruffalo is better than Norton as Banner, I would still have liked to have seen Norton return, mostly due to being a big fan of continuity and now The Incredible Hulk feels like it doesn't quite belong).

Man of Steel, is a new start for a whole new world. The Dark Knight films don't fit with it, so it makes perfect sense to bring in a new Batman. Keep it real, but still, a lighter tone would be welcome. I think Affleck's Batman will sit somewhere between Bale's and the 80/90s films. And that's fine by me.... but I would really really prefer to see Affleck in a solo Batflick first. Let Cavill have another solo outing, defining his 'Clark Kent' persona, give him Luthor and/or Brainiac to deal with, in the meantime give Affleck a solo world that fits with the Man of Steel one. Give him a villain that didn't appear in the previous franchise (David Tennant as Riddler? Toby Jones as Penguin? Just suggesting) so that when it does come to a Superman/Batman film... well... it'll be more exciting all round. We'll have seen both in action separately and now we get to see them together!

After that then bring a few other solo adventures out for Green Lantern (as it seems we've got to forget the previous one) and The Flash. (as a side note, if you're going to team Supes up with anyone in his sequel maybe throw in Wonder Woman as it seems they're having trouble getting a solo effort off the ground for her)...

and then BAM! We have the basis for a Justice League film. Cavill, Affleck... whoever the others end up being. Wb need to stop being too proud and see what works... and remember, they have the two most famous heroes of all time. A little patience could go a long way!

Of course that's all null and void as they ARE making Superman/Batman, Affleck isn't getting a solo outing first, and Cavill doesn't have time to perfect his bumbling reporter routine. So I'm back at square one... give Affleck a break and put your trust in Nolan, Snyder and the gang. You never know - you might actually enjoy the result :-)

The same people whining are the same people who whined about Ledger as the Joker and Snyder helming Supes. Don't judge a book by its cover, fellas. Save your whining for afterwards if there is a need for it. We're getting a Superman and Batman movie for the first time in history and we should be happy about it.

Yeah I won't be seeing this. This is the worst casting choice I've ever seen. A guy that said wearing a Super Hero suit was a state of embarrassment for him is gonna be Batman? The Dark Fucking Knight? The character that was so fucking awesome in Nolan's Trilogy? Is this a fucking sick joke? Out of all the people they went with...Ben Affleck? Fuck WB, Fuck Zack Snyder, and....why not....Fuck Christian Bale for being a pussy and for having a stick up his ass.....Ok I'm done.

Affleck is not the problem

Goyer is.

Plus, look on the bright side, Snyder can't have Supes throw Bats through dozens of buildings killing thousands of innocent people for twenty minutes at the end of the movie.

Oh, I just thought of something else that could be a problem. Giant, freakishly huge, abs on the Batsuit.
