Zac Efron Ted Bundy

Over the past few years Zac Efron has pumping out the comedies, such as NEIGHBORS, MIKE AND DAVE NEED WEDDING DATES, DIRTY GRANDPA and the upcoming BAYWATCH, but it seems that Efron is ready for something different as he's signed on to play one of the world's most notorious serial killers in EXTREMELY WICKED, SHOCKINGLY EVIL AND VILE.

Zac Efron will play Ted Bundy in the film, which is to be directed by Joe Berlinger and will be told through the perspective of Bundy's longtime girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer, "who went years denying the accusations against Bundy but ultimately turned him in to the police. Only nearing his execution, when Bundy began talking about his extensive and heinous murders, did Kloepfer, and the rest of the world, learn the true scope of his numerous and grizzly crimes." Certainly a change of pace for the BATWATCH actor. Throughout the 70's, and possibly earlier, Ted Bundy assaulted and murdered many young women and girls. It's not clear just how many victims can be attributed to Bundy, but shorty before his execution he confessed to thirty homicides. Charming fellow. Production on EXTREMELY WICKED, SHOCKINGLY EVIL AND VILE is set to get underway this October.

"I have been trying to work with Zac Efron for a long time," said producer Nicolas Chartier. "From his dramatic turn in ‘Paperboy’  to his hilarious performance in ‘Neighbors,’ he continues to impress audiences and critics alike with his extraordinary versatility and range. We couldn’t be more excited to see him in this amazing role." Fellow producer Michael Costigan praised the script by Michael Werwie and added that "Zac is perfect casting, as he can play both the depth and the charm that this guy had in equal measures, and which allowed him to manipulate these women in such a terrifying way. We think in the vein of Nightcrawler or even The Jinx, we are making a psychological thriller that will resonate deeply with audiences."

BAYWATCH is set to hit theaters on May 25th.

New rule:

Whenever a young attractive actor breaks out in a huge corny romance hit with all the annoying fan girls wetting their pants attached to the hype, lets not dismiss the guy right away and hate on him. Let's reserve our judgement for at least two more movies. Because that makes it much easier to later on admit that a DiCaprio, Pattinson or Efron are actually pretty cool guys who don't want to be typecast and establish a more varied acting career. There will still be enough Taylor Lautners left

There will still be enough Taylor Lautners left who fall flat to ridicule after that reserved judgement period and you don't look like the fool who just envied the upcoming star for the female attention he got.

I dismissed Zac Efron at first but he caught me by surprise with The Paperboy. He's an underrated actor and he just needs the right role. This new project could be right up his alley.

Zac Efron is an extremely versatile actor. My kids loved High School Musical. What I admire is that he takes chances with his roles, from comedic and sexy to dark and serious. This is a surprise that he would take on this nefarious role. He'll do it justice, no doubt. He is a professional. That is clear. HSM required dancing, singing acting and maintaining fitness. Since then he has committed to his roles as a professional actor. He will try to capture the charm and menace of Ted

I never understood the hate for him, he is definitely a talented guy who limits himself to playing the douchebag frat boy type. He definitely has the look of a suave and smooth talking serial killer. I will definitely check out!

I always thought he had more talent than just playing the "strong dumb guy" roles in R rated comedies he's been taking lately, and it's an interesting enough story. Here's hoping it turns out good.

wish they make it as charming as American Psycho. I like Zac a bit for his movies like 17 Again, Me and Orson Welles

Not a big Efron fan...

... but that's some inspired casting. I would have never thought of him to play Ted Bundy but I'm in.
