Zach Galifianakis IS being funny in the Due Date trailer

Jul. 14, 2010by: Mike Sampson

This morning, we showed you the trailer for IT'S KIND OF A FUNNY STORY, the Zack Galifianakis movie that's not quite a comedy. Now we have a trailer for Zack's other film, DUE DATE with Robert Downey, Jr., that is most definitely a comedy.

I'm not sure what to think about this trailer. For one, I legitimately laughed through the duration. But the more I thought about it, the Galifianakis character seems like a little bit of a retread of his HANGOVER character and the plot seems awfully reminiscent of PLANES, TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES. Of course, most of that will be forgiven if the movie is just hysterically funny and, like I said, make me laugh this trailer certainly did. Take a look below and see what you think.

Extra Tidbit: I find it odd that a trailer this goofy is running before INCEPTION.

As for Zack Galifianakis . . .

I think he does seem to play similar characters when he has a large role. Audiences seem to identify him as this type and studios know to take advantage of what is most marketable. So, he gets cast in roles that will draw an audience. In small roles, though, he does have an opportunity to show some range. I thought his performances in Up In The Air and Youth in Revolt demonstrated that he is capable of more than just this type.

Besides, I find it funny that there are people here

Besides, I find it funny that there are people here questioning his range when another trailer with him for It's Kind of a Funny Story, released shortly before this one, suggests he is willing to try different roles and stretch a bit.

How Is RDJ Playing Tony Stark?

There is a difference between an actor playing the same character and an actor being identified by his most famous role. The only similarity I see here is that he has the same voice and face; I don't see any character similarities. RDJ seems to be playing a straight man here, responding to Galifianakis' crazy antics. Stark was a narcissistic, larger than life character. This role seems to be more him as a down to earth person trying to put up with Zack's annoying behavior. It's the typical

Where are these blatant similarities a lot of you are indicating?

Also, I think RDJ proved he has range when he pursued another big budget franchise and provided another great performance as a popular figure (Sherlock Holmes). I think he does a great job in this role and distinguishes the character well from his other big franchise.

Hopefully Zach Galifianakis doesn't have the same turn around as Jon Heder

So this movie is basically "Tony Stark goes on a road trip with Alan from the The Hangover"?
AWESOME.

This looks extremely entertaining. Wait, what was the plot again? Guess it doesn't matter. Those two names will put everyone in the seats.

Saw it at a private screening with Todd Phillips and it was awesome! While a little too similar to 'Planes, Trains, and Automobiles', it definitely wasn't a bad thing. Yes, RDJ and Zach are similar to their characters in Iron Man and Hangover.. but that's why they were cast in these roles. Very funny movie, I enjoyed it more than the Hangover, and keep an eye out for an amazing Danny McBride cameo.

This looks hilarious. I had a big grin on my face throughout the whole trailer and laughed out loud numerous times. Downey Jr. and Galifianakis looks like they have great chemistry with one another and it's awesome that Downey Jr. and Jaime Foxx are in another movie together (i.e. The Soloist = loved that movie, hence my name). Glad to see Downey doing more comedies and doing more diverse roles that stray away from Iron Man or big budget. Can't wait to see this.

Visioneers

I would advise everyone to watch Visioneers if you want to see Zach in a completely different role. The movie is decent but Zach actually shines in it.

Yes.. ZG is playing the same character from The Hangover.. but Downey is also doing the same thing he's been doing since he re-emerged as Tony Stark.. most guys stick to the same shit that makes them famous.

Yeah why is Zach being Hangover-esque a bad thing? The Hangover was one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time, and a lot of that had to do with him. So him being Hangover-ish = him being hilarious as far as I'm concerned. I love the RDJ pairing, can't wait to see this.

Looks hilarious and I couldn't give a fuck less if ZG's character is almost identical to his hangover one... because IMO that's a good thing.

Get off his back

Galifinakis has been playing the same type of character long before the The Hangover(Out Cold Anyone). also playing the same type of character works for Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn, Morgan Freeman, Jeff Goldblum, and Clint Eastwood so why not Zack

Looks funny but...

....unless Zack Galifianakis is playing the EXACT SAME CHARACTER as THE HANGOVER, the man needs to find some range, because not only does he looks EXACTLY like that character, he walks/talks like him as well.

He doesn't need to find range.. he was cast to play the awkward character that his stand-up has always been based around. If they wanted a different type of character, they would have cast someone else or directed him otherwise

Actual Movie > Trailer

It'll probably be a really funny movie...but the trailer was shit. I'm OK with that.

Looks funny but The Beard's character definitely seems too much like his character from Hangover. Is it possible it's the same character? Cause that would work better in my opinion.

Looks very funny! I rarely lol so much during a trailr. Galifanikis and Downey Jr. seem like naturally funny people, and yea the character does seem similiar to the one he played in the Hangover, but most comedians do play the same type of character in movies over and over again, though some do branch out, and it is still early in Galifianikis's career so plenty of time to branch out, he even has some more dramatic roles coming out.
