Zach Galifianakis is going to pass on playing John Belushi in Todd Phillips' biopic

09.22.2010

When we were trying to decide who would make a good pick for John Belushi in the biopic being planned by Todd Phillips, did we mention Zach Galifianakis?

Go ahead and count him out. Galifianakis spoke with Phillips on the subject awhile back, but hasn't recently. So what was his answer when asked if he would take on the role? "No, I donít think so," said Galifianakis without hesitation.

He then continues saying, "That's a little bit...I could play maybe the guy Grizzly Adams. You know that story?" Galifianakis quickly throws his head back and shouts, "Mom, what's Grizzly Adams? Mom! Mom!"

Check the video out. It's 44 seconds, but worth the watch.

Extra Tidbit: I had to include that picture of Belushi with Keith Richards and James Brown. That must have been a hell of a party. Where's Rick James?!

I get worried about Zach. I'm a long time fan and I'm not sure the roles he's picking work to his strengths.

Thank the GODS. I have a bit more respect for Mr. Galifianakis, now; how many other great people's images have been tarnished due to some actor being stupid enough to think they could actually "be" them? And in the case of someone like Mr. Belushi, no matter how closely a person acts like him, no matter how much they may look like him (and Zach, by the way, looks NOTHING like him), THEY WILL *NEVER* *BE* him.

So, good move on Mr. Galifianakis' part, and good news for the world. For now.

i'm telling you guys...

Josh Peck is perfect for this role. He's already proved he can do funny (Drake and Josh) and dramatic (Wackness). He did an episode of his show where he did the Soul Man as Belushi and it was pretty good, and He's young, and available.

All he needs is to re-gain some of the weight (easily done with a nutritionist) so he gets to Belushi's size and thats it. Of any name in hollywood right now i'd pick him

He would have been my prefered choice, but if not him then they should cast an unknown. Zach G would have been perfect for the role and it would have helped him flex his dramatic chops more, but you can't blame the guy for passing on it, because it is such a BIG role to fulfill. I mean this is Belushi we are talking about here. Who wouldn't be nervous about playing the guy?

he likes his beard too much

this would be a perfect role for zach galafinakis to spread his wings as an actor, I for one see this being potential oscar territory, and to me he is the best choice in the biopic, its a shame he doesnt want to do it, It could be a huge turning point for his career, but as I said I don't think he wants to remove his beard... although didnt he for 1 ep of between 2 ferns?

It's not his beard. THough it's something of a trademark for him, he's shaved it plenty of times throughout his career.

I think he realizes this wouldn't be a good fit. I certainly can't see him as Belushi.
