Zak Penn to rewrite The Karate Kid sequel

02.07.2012

I remember when I was all anti KARATE KID remake. Then I finally watched it on DVD and to my surprise actually enjoy it. I've also seen it more than once. I feel so ashamed admitting this.

Anyway, I figured that the one remake was it. Then today news comes out that a writer has been hired to rewrite the sequel, KARATE KID II. Who is this lucky fella? Zak Penn, scribe for THE INCREDIBLE HULK and X-MEN: THE LAST STAND.

What was the 1986 sequel all about? "Daniel accompanies his mentor to Okinawa who is off to see his dying father and confront his old rival, while Daniel inadvertently makes an enemy of his own." Jackie Chan nor Jaden Smith have signed on, but are expected to join.

The plot is said to be "under wraps" but I'm sure it won't differ much from the original.

Extra Tidbit: Am I the only one who enjoyed the remake?

I REALLY enjoyed the remake.

Even though the title is completely wrong, but they needed the brand-recognition. I'm glad to see that atleast one of Will Smith's offspring has some talent (unlike the retarded girl ... ). It was a LOT of fun, plus it's Jackie Chan in a family film and NOT SUCKING. The only problem I had was the Bieber song at the end.

I hope Ralph Macchio makes a cameo

yea I liked the remake for what it was, but didn't like it as much as the original. They could have done away with the CG crane type kick at the end.

What?

Well... maybe if they change it's title to Kung-Fu Kid this time... will gonna make sense.

"The plot is said to be "under wraps" but I'm sure it won't differ much from the original."

Don't know where this thought comes from. The first one moved the damn thing half way around the world and already touched on the Jackie Chan character's past pretty deeply...both of which were huge changes from the original.

I liked the first one. But they really didn't do much to make any changes from the original, which I also like. Just wish they'd change the name to "Kung-Fu Kid".

It was initially being kicked around with that title I believe. Then some studio exec pointed out they couldn't cash in on the title if they changed it

I enjoyed the remake. They could have cut 20 minutes off the movie but other than that, it was decent. I'd be up for a sequel.
