Zoe Saldana to star in NBC's Rosemary's Baby mini-series
While a remake of Roman Polanski's horror classic ROSEMARY'S BABY sounded like a bad idea, NBC has nabbed a very interesting lead actress for their upcoming mini-series. STAR TREK and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY star Zoe Saldana will take on the role of Rosemary for the show. Oscar nominated director Agnieszka Holland will direct the new take on Ira Levin's novel which will transplant the story from New York to Paris.
Rosemary, the iconic young wife and would-be mother who, with her husband, moves into a Paris apartment that has a darkly storied past. After finally getting pregnant, she becomes increasingly suspicious that both her husband and their mysterious neighbors have ulterior motives about the future of her child.
Zoe Saldana has cemented herself as a big screen actress and this casting further cements the idea that television is a place for quality programming on par with what Hollywood films have to offer. No word on who will be cast as her husband or as the Satanic neighbors. NBC Vice President Quinn Taylor issued this statement:
“Zoe has proven that she is one of our most gifted actresses and we think she has the perfect combination of spirit and gravitas to take on the title role from Ira Levin’s infamous novel. With Zoe leading the cast under the direction of Agnieszka Holland, this reimagined event mini-series is off to a great start.”
I couldn't agree more. Saldana is sexy and talented and fully capable of bringing a fresh, modern take on Mia Farrow's iconic performance. I have been very impressed with the spate of mini-series and event shows airing on the networks over the last couple of years and now I am incredibly excited for ROSEMARY'S BABY.
ROSEMARY'S BABY will air sometime in late 2014 on NBC.
