Zoolander sequel is still alive and planning to unleash Magnum

May. 5, 2010by: Dave Davis

Things looked grim for the return of vacuous pose-striker Derek Zoolander. Although a ZOOLANDER sequel had been seriously discussed recently, last week Ben Stiller made a comment that the project could fall victim to shallow studio pockets.

Frightened by the prospect of a world without more of the aging supermodel and his range of expressions, Movieline got in touch with the theoretical project's writer-director Justin Theroux for an update.

"Today and yesterday I was with Ben, and today, we continued to break story," Theroux said. "I have not gotten word from anyone to put pencils down, so I am continuing as though we are proceeding with that film."

While they're still hammering out the story, the current plan is to reunite Stiller's mobile fashion punchline with Owen Wilson's butterscotch stallion to face new villain Jonah Hill.

Extra Tidbit: Although Jon Favreau, Robert Downey Jr. and a committee of Marvel people contributed to the story, Theroux got sole screenwriting credit for IRON MAN 2.

Answer to the last two posters : I do believe that if Zoolander 2 gets greenlighted (hooray for the English language ability of verbifying any word), it will mean that Anchorman 2 still has a chance of seeing the light. Plus, I think that any of the major actors from the original (and this is purely a personal view on things) is willing to go through a major paycut so that the legend of Ron Burgundy may live again.

Also, believe you me, Paramount will shit their pants when they see how much

Also, believe you me, Paramount will shit their pants when they see how much money these movies rake in. You cannot ignore the force of cult movies (except if its a Donnie Darko sequel, that's just stupid)!

I'm glad to see this movie isn't dead yet, but if this gets made THEN I REALLY WANT AN ANCHORMAN 2 MOVIE MADE!! I mean if Zoolander can have a sequel, I think Anchorman should easily have a sequel without any problems of budgets.
