It's been hot - FINALLY! - in my little coastal California town, after endless weeks of fogged in summer months. Since I was too unmotivated by the lack of daytime sunshine, I went in search of it by cruising through a long weekend of "Veronica Mars" on my Roku. And that's pretty much the simple explanation for this simple match-up this week.

Kristen Bell

I could say that I thought KBell was cute enough when I first started paying attention to her, a time that was long after she'd been on the teenage girl detective show. But since I've always been partial to brunettes, when she matched up against Mila Kunis in FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL, I didn't pay as much attention to her. But after watching her as Veronica, it became very clear very quickly just how easy she made it for anyone to fall in love with her. I'm definitely a believer in the Bell now.

Kristin Kruek might not have all that great of a resume under her belt but damn, what a way to take a throw-away role on a TV show which should have been more easily dismissed than it was (I actually caught "Smallville" for the first season or so and never got the appeal) and turn it into the "who the hell is that gorgeous girl?" set of several seasons. People might still be grasping to remember her name, but Kristin is just so gorgeous that she'll never be forgotten for being that stunning girl from that Superman show.

For those who will give me shit for including KStew in the Kristen battle when I would normally throw in some oddball ringer (perhaps Chenoweth? She's just so damn cute...), I will defend my decision with this: Stewart CAN be beautiful from time to time. On her days off she might not be spectacular, but the girl photographs wonderfully under the right art direction. And while I have found her acting to be stiff and oft times just plain strange (aside from IN THE LAND OF WOMEN, where playing a disaffected daughter in suburbia suited her quite nicely), this column really isn't about the caliber of believability.

Salacious sidelick: While I really had no clue as to how well SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD was going to do at the box office, I was fairly certain that last week's battle would be a landslide for May Elizabeth Winstead - and I was right. The actress nabbed 34 of the 57 votes, for a whopping 60% win. In a distant second was Anna Kendrick with 18 votes (31.5%) and my favorite little TV blonde, Brie Larson barely squeaked out any love, with 2 (3.5%) votes. She was beat by a write in, Ellen Wong, who got 3 (5%) of the total votes.

Oh yeah, and this is coming from someone who actually likes Stewart. Something about her I find sexy..not Kristen Bell sexy..but still sexy. And I've never found Kruek attractive...

I never really got into Stewart's stoner look which she seems to have in all her promos & the films I've seen her in (Into the wild & Adventureland) but I'd still drink her bath water if I had the chance. Good match up this week.

For once, you've created a battle of the babes where it's impossible for me to choose. I'm a huge fan of both Kristen Stewart and Kristen Bell, they're both gorgeous and phenomenal actresses. I'm glad you finally decided to check out Veronica Mars. I think that's by far her best role. As for Kristen Stewart, I think a lot of people judge her based on her Twilight character. If you don't like those movies, I think it would be a good idea to disassociate Kristen Stewart from them and focus on her other movies and you'll see what an amazing actress she is. The Runaways is currently my favorite movie of the year. She was excellent in that. And I just watched The Yellow Handkerchief and it had another great performance from her. Critics are finally admitting they were wrong about her, most noteably Ebert, who now considers her to be a great actress. I don't understand why some people don't consider her to be as hot as I find her to be, she's incredibly hot, a ten out of ten. And I love her personality. Getting back to Kristen Bell, I wish she would be in better movies. Everything post-Veronica Mars has not done much for me. But, I now how talented she is so I think it's just a matter of the scripts not being good enough for her. Hopefully, she finds a genuinely great movie to be in soon.
