Hype!
Well, no one was sure what to make of
this image at first. We found out when Columbia Pictures announced
that the SPIDER-MAN press conference would take place on Thursday that
this was an official Sony image. But is it the official logo? E-Bay
now has up for bidding "official" SPIDER-MAN production
baseball caps that have...you guessed it. That same image on the
front. So it seems that for now at least, this is the closest we're
coming to an official logo. Looks pretty damn cool.

Sony was nice enough to forward us a picture of the big SPIDER-MAN
press conference that took place yesterday. From left to right in the
photo are: James Franco (Harry Osborn), Willem Dafoe (Green Goblin),
Tobey Maguire (Spider-Man), Sam Raimi (director), and Kirsten Dunst
(Mary Jane). It was also nice to see the boys from Coming
Attractions invited to the big pow-wow (good to see that studios
are recognizing the fact that there is more than just one movie news
outlet on the Net!). They got pictures of the set, a transcript of
some of the Q&A...check it all out here

II weapons? |

Source: Coming
Attractions
Coming Attractions received word from a
pretty reliable source about some of the weapons you can expect to see
in STAR WARS: EPISODE 2, more specifically, one of the new sabers.
This isn't really spoiler stuff, but if you really don't want to know
a damn thing about the movie, I suggest you scroll past this and read
the next news item.
Still here? OK. Their scooper claims that Darth Tyrannus
has a new weapon that ILM'ers have dubbed "the flamesaber."
It reportedly has a red/orange glow to it and makes a completely
different sound than previous sabers have made. It makes me wonder
why, if all this stuff happened before A NEW HOPE, EMPIRE, and JEDI,
why didn't Vader have any of these cool weapons. All these other
Darth's get the baddest sticks around and all Anakin got was your
generic, run-of-the-mill lightsaber. What a rip.

| Depp
bounces Cusack? |

Reporter
Just when we thought we had the role
pegged, Mike Myers backed out. Then we thought we had it pegged again
with John Cusack and it seems that we may have been wrong with that
assumption as well. Now, the Hollywood Reporter is reporting that
director Bryan Singer wants Johnny Depp to star in his next film and
although no negotiations have begun with any actor, Depp seems to be
leading the pack. Is there anyone else who wishes they would just cast
the damn part and get started on the movie already?

Paul Newman is eyeing a role in Sam
Mendes' next directorial effort THE ROAD TO PERDITION, starring Tom
Hanks. The movie is the story of Michael O'Sullivan (Hanks), a hitman
in 1930s Chicago. O'Sullivan and his son go on the lam and seek
revenge after most of their family is murdered. Newman would join Jude
Law and Tom Sizemore (who will be playing Al Capone) as the
adoptive father of Hanks' character. The movie is set for a November,
2001 release.

A movie detailing the life and times of
Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy may actually be happening now that the
starring roles have been cast. The long rumored project received a
shot in the ass when it was announced that Brits Robert Carlyle (THE
FULL MONTY) and Robbie Coltrane (NUNS ON THE RUN) are stepping into
the shoes of Laurel and Hardy, respectively. Production on the project
will begin early in 2002.

Freddy beat Jason? |

Source: Aint it Cool News
According to one scoopster over at AICN,
the long-delayed FREDDY VS JASON motion picture will have two
different endings. This according to Freddy Krueger himself, Robert
Englund, who confessed the idea on a local radio talk show. Englund
apparently said that "When Jason vs. Freddy is done, it will have
two endings. One where Freddy wins and one where Jason wins. When it
gets released half [the prints] will have a Freddy friendly ending and
the other half Jason friendly. And they will not advertise which
theater has which ending. So people seeing it will not know who wins
until the end." The production on the film has currently been put
on hold until the release of JASON X on August 17, 2001.

Sun Times
After all kinds of delays and casting
confusions, soon to be Oscar-nominated Steven Soderbergh's version of
the Rat Pack classic OCEAN'S 11 is finally ready to go before cameras.
Cindy Pearlman from the Chicago Sun-Times got
to speak with producer George Clooney and director Soderbergh, as well
as Don Cheadle, who revealed he has not been officially cast yet.
Cheadle did say that he was just waiting for "the ink to
dry" on his contract, but did not reveal any information on what
role he would be playing saying only jokingly, "I'm doing the
Peter Lawford role." Clooney said he is excited to start
production on the film, which begins shooting February 11th in Las
Vegas and Atlantic City.

Things were moving along quite nicely
with the DOGMA: SPECIAL EDITION DVD until now, just three weeks before
its scheduled release date of January 23, 2001. If you'll remember, we
here at JoBlo brought you a first look at the DVD cover art, but we
have now learned that it may be some time before you get to see that
cover art in person. Columbia-TriStar, who is handling the DVD
release, sent word to retailers stating the release date has been
delayed until further notice due to unforeseen circumstances. This
shouldn't come as a surprise to Kevin Smith fans, as every one of his
DVD releases (CLERKS, MALLRATS, and CHASING AMY) has been delayed.
We'll keep you posted as to details of a new street date.
