| Spidey
gets girlfriend |
October 20, 2000 |
| Source:
Dark Horizons
It's finally official (at least
according to Spidey himself), actress Alicia Witt has been cast as
Peter Parker's girlfriend Mary Jane in the upcoming Sam Raimi directed
SPIDER-MAN movie. Tobey Maguire apparently mentioned this himself at a
press conference in Rome, Italy, in which he also revealed that they
had yet to find a replacement for John Malkovich as the Green Goblin.
He also said that he would not be wearing any padding in his Spidey
suit (you hear that, Schumacher?) and that he had never read a
Spider-Man comic book before reading the script.

interview on the Net. ROLLERBALL is currently being remade by director
John McTiernan with Chris Klein in the lead and LL Cool J, Jean Reno

film as of yet, but LL was nice enough to offer some thoughts to
Premiere France online, including his take on the original, his
character in the movie, the social implications of Rollerball,
comparisons to ANY GIVEN SUNDAY and his role in CHARLIE'S ANGELS. All

Witch 2 = good? |

Aint-it-Cool-News
Word on the street is now technically
divided regarding the sequel to THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, opening
Friday, October 28. Initial reviews claimed that the film was
"garbage" but now here comes Harry Knowles, the man with the
scoops, with a very positive review of the film. "I really
loved the film", said Harry, "Berlinger has crafted a
film that is extremely intelligent... that is less scary as it is
disturbing and unsettling... and ultimately leaves you with the
ability to have two distinct feelings about what happened.
Psychological or Supernatural... you decide." The grain of
salt in this review comes by the way of Artisan Entertainment setting
up the entire preview for Harry and his dad, and even setting up an
interview with the director sometime later that afternoon. Of course,
you will have to decide on how objective you find his review.

Cross Mad Max with Sir Lancelot and
you'll have the gist of Matthew McConaughey's next starring role in a
film entitled REIGN OF FIRE. A big-budget, post-apocalyptic tale set
to go before cameras in the U.K. early next year, the film will star
McConaughey as a Yankee dragon slayer who teams with a Brit "fire
chief", played by Christian Bale, in an attempt to destroy the
queen beast. The film is to be directed by Rob Bowman (X-FILES: FIGHT
THE FUTURE), and takes place at a time in which fire-breathing dragons
have emerged to dominate the planet.

3 Script Review |
October 16, 2000 |
| Source:
Aint-it-Cool-News
The first official
"unofficial" script review for the third TERMINATOR feature
is now up for your reading pleasure. It contains certain spoilers, but
does give you good indications as to where those spoilers are in the
review. The script is written by a guy named Tedi Sarafian and does
not have James Cameron attached to it. In the end, the reviewer said
simply "Terminator-fans don’t give up hope just yet, I
believe there is enough good in this script to make another film
worthwhile, but now it really comes down to the talent and budget
brought on board to see justice brought to the screenplay. So for all
you “it’s still gonna suck ‘cause Cameron’s still not
involved”, flame on. But remember, it’s Cameron’s choice to not
come back, and if it really was a lousy script, I’d be right behind
you, but let’s wait and see what happens, as this is the first real
big hurdle to clear."

| Ali
down for the count? |
October 16, 2000 |
| Source:
Variety
After months of training for his
leading role in the biopic of Muhammad Ali's life entitled ALI, it
looks as though both Will Smith, and director Michael Mann, may have
to forget about the project altogether. Sony put the project in
turnaround last week after the budget of the film ran past its cap of
$105 million. Having said that, skeptics have cautioned that the
studio's move may just have been a bargaining ploy, intended to rein
in a headstrong helmer. Studio execs will hold a final meeting Monday
with Mann, director of the Oscar-nominated film THE INSIDER, to see if
the costs can somehow be trimmed.

Evil: The Movie |

E! Online
Sony Playstation's groundbreaking 3D
adventure game RESIDENT EVIL will be coming to a theatre near you for
Halloween 2001. The man behind such "classic" films as
MORTAL KOMBAT, SOLDIER and EVENT HORIZON, Paul Anderson, just signed a
deal to direct the $40 million horror thriller, based on the
best-selling video game. The story follows a military task force
battling to save the world from a powerful supercomputer that's run
amuck. The Special Tactics and Rescue Squad (STAR) must face and
defeat hundreds of scientists who have mutated into flesh-eating
zombies due to a laboratory accident. Legendary NIGHT OF THE LIVING
DEAD director George Romero initially was rumored to be up for the
job, seeing that he shot a number of commercials in Japan for the
game's sequel, "Resident Evil 2". But it was Paul Anderson
who finally got the nod. The film is set to begin shooting in January
in London.
