Titanic meets Mars

November 17, 2000

Source: IMDb

And just when you thought that there weren't enough Mars movies being produced in Hollywood, here comes the King of all directors, James Cameron, with more info about his next project. Apparently, he's spent most of his time since TITANIC, working on what he calls his "Mars Project", which will include a novel, a mini-series and an Imax 3D film. Cameron said, "I've been doing a tremendous amount of research over the past 14 months, going to the NASA centers, meeting and drinking with astronauts, and doing the same in Russia. I need to experience some of the things they go through so that I can write these scripts and the novel as accurately as possible."

Austin Powers 3

November 17, 2000

Source: Dark Horizons

Director Jay Roach is on a roll and he's not about to slow down. After two major successes in the AUSTIN POWERS flicks, Jay went on to direct another major Hollywood comedy, MEET THE PARENTS and is now looking to follow both of his popular franchises up with sequels. But wait, now comes word that before production begins on MEET THE FOCKERS, AUSTIN POWERS 3 is being discussed as a prequel. The details are sketchy at this point, but here's what Jay had to say about it: "We have a concept based on a prequel, where Dr Evil and Austin are together in the 1950s as young men in some academy. Of course, something goes wrong, Dr Evil goes off to some zone and Austin launches the British revolution in American music and colour, just to annoy Dr Evil." Jay is also hoping that Sean Connery can make an appearance in the third film of the series.

Zeta-Jones-Douglas?

November 15, 2000

Source: Reuters

It's official. Actor/producer Michael Douglas is the luckiest man in the world. Michael married gorgeous actress Catherine Zeta-Jones on Saturday night with plenty of stars there to watch. Jack Nicholson, Anthony Hopkins, Danny DeVito, James Woods, Goldie Hawn, Ellen Barkin, Brad Pitt and wife Jennifer Aniston were among the many, including directors Steven Spielberg and Oliver Stone. The ceremony is rumored to have cost close to $1.7 million. In a pretty cool gesture, the couple asked guests to donate money, in lieu of presents, to the Dylan Douglas Foundation, a charitable trust for their new son that Douglas' spokesman said the boy will not be able to keep when he comes of age, but must give away. Michael is 56, Catherine is 31. They share the same birthday, September 25, and already have one son together, Dylan Michael.

Russell and Costner direct together?

November 20, 2000

Source: E! Online

Here's something you don't hear about every day. Actors Kevin Costner and Kurt Russell have both been given permission to cut their own version of the film 3,000 MILES TO GRACELAND, a casino-heist comedy which they both co-star in as well. Producer Elie Samaha and Warner Bros studios have allowed each of the stars to screen the film to test audiences as well. After several screen tests and editing room debates, Costner's version won the battle beating Russell's version by an apparent "landslide".

Costner's cut was described as "pure action...[and] violence laced with humor" in the vein of Pulp Fiction, while "Kurt's was more character-oriented" and focused on his character's romance. The film also co-stars Courteney Cox, Christian Slater, David Arquette, Kevin Pollack, Jon Lovitz and ex-footbal player Howie Long.

Make fun of Lucas

November 13, 2000

Source: Atom Films

Writer/director George Lucas has teamed up with Atom Films to create the STAR WARS FAN FILM NETWORK, an official online portal designed to help folks like you, me and anyone else who wants to make fun of Star Wars, to show off parodies and documentaries of the classic sci-fi flick. Not only will Rebel filmmakers and animators be able to send up their favorite saga and safely exercise their creativity as filmmakers without worrying about copyright infringement (Lucas has cleared a library of audio clips for use), but novice moviemakers whose flicks are selected for the site might also earn a few credits. Whoever gets their film picked for the network will land a distribution deal with Atom Films who will pay the winners royalties based on advertising and sponsorship revenues generated from the site. X-Men & Austin Powers meet

November 13, 2000

Source: Hollywood Reporter

X-Men director Bryan Singer and writer/actor Mike Myers are presently in negotiations to respectively direct and star in the drama CONFESSIONS OF A DANGEROUS MIND. The film is scheduled to start shooting in February or March. The film has yet to secure domestic distribution and is looking at a budget of approximately $35-40 million. The script comes from Charlie Kaufman, the man who wrote BEING JOHN MALKOVICH, and is a fictitious account of the secret life of "Gong Show" host Chuck Barris, who purportedly was also a CIA hitman, based on Barris' own 1984 book "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind: An Unauthorized Autobiography."

Eurythmics director

November 13, 2000

Source: Premiere France

Remember the singer of the 80s pop band "The Eurythmics"? Sure you do. Annie Lennox. Now do you remember the "other" dude from the group? Dave Stewart...the guitarist? Well, whether you do or not, the guy has now moved from directing some of his own music videos to directing his own feature film called HONEST. The film stars Nicole Appleton, Natalie Appleton, Melanie Blatt (aka the musical group "The Saints") and Peter Facinelli. The IMDd says that the film "is an edgy black comedy set in swinging London in the late 60s. The All Saints girls play three street wise sisters who head 'up West' to rob and generally cause trouble. The film takes place in London, during the 1960s." Thanks to Bear aka Lours
