Josie & The Pussycats Pictures!!

December 16, 2000

Source: Comics2Film and American Mule

American Mule (remember them...they broke the first clean images from X-MEN) has posted quite a few (24 to be exact) studio photos from JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS. Now, these aren't pictures from the film, just pictures of Rachel Leigh Cook, Tara Reid and Rosario Dawson as Josie, Val and Melody kind of standing around and looking really, really hot. I swear to you, this is exactly what my childhood dreams looked like. I don't even need (or want) to see the movie at this point. These pictures are enough for me.

Want a part in the Spider-Man movie?

Source: Aint it Cool News

Want to be an extra in the Spider-Man movie? Well, director Sam Raimi has issued an open casting call for all true blue comic lovers to be "unpaid" extras on January 16-18 for a street fight scene between Spider-Man and Randy "The Macho Man" Savage, as the unspecified villain. They will pick you up at Golden Apple at 7am, and then drop you off around 6 pm. They are offering door prizes and lots of food. Here's the Golden Apple's info:

More Jay & Silent Bob casting

December 16, 2000

Source: Hollywood Reporter

In addition to the news that Judd Nelson was joining the cast of Kevin Smith's latest, today a whole flood of names were listed as additions to the final installment in the Jersey Quadrilogy (which, I don't believe is a real word). Let's see...you've got Will Ferrell and Tracy Morgan from SNL, Shannon Elizabeth, Seann William Scott, and Jason Biggs from American Pie, Steve Kmetko and Jules Aster from the E! channel and George Carlin. Interesting...since we know that Will Hunting (Matt Damon) will make a cameo and Judd Nelson has already been cast, with the addition of the American Pie cast, maybe we'll find Jay and Bob making a road trip into teen movie heaven! Or maybe not.

Scooby Doo Script Review

December 16, 2000

Source: Fandom

Well, your friend and mine, Smilin' Jack Ruby has posted a review of James Gunn's SCOOBY DOO script. And <big shock here> he didn't like it at all. Things just keep getting worse and worse for this doomed adaptation of an American classic. And if anyone out there in Hollywood is listening, there is a reason CATCHER IN THE RYE was never made into a movie. Some things are just better off left alone (i.e. Scoobs). Check it out below if you must:

Basic Instinct 2 Story Line

December 16, 2000

Source: Aint it Cool News

AICN posted a pretty detailed run-down of the characters you can expect to see in Cruella DeVille's, I mean Sharon Stone's next cinematic masterpiece, BASIC INSTINCT 2, or as I like to refer to it, BASIC INSTINK 2 (I know that was corny, but it was so easy, I just had to). Without even reading it you can probably guess what's gonna happen here.  Smart, yet stupid guy, tries to understand/tame Catherine and winds up getting pulled into her ever-growing web of deceit and manipulation. Sounds like a winner. If you're really that bored, go check it out here

Source: The DVD Clinic

Straight from our man, Dr. Drew, here is some info for the upcoming MEET THE PARENTS DVD. A release date has been confirmed for March 6th, 2000 for the disc. Preliminary specs point to a Collector's Edition which will feature an anamorphic transfer, audio commentary (participants unknown as of yet), 5.1 Dolby Digital sound, production notes and other featurettes. Suggested retail price will be $24.95. This movie's been out since October and has been in the top 10 ever since. Pretty impressive stuff.

Judd joins Jay & Bob

December 15, 2000

Source: News Askew

Kevin Smith mentioned in his column over at Psycomics, that he had met with Judd Nelson about a possible role in his upcoming film, JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK. Now it is being reported that it is in fact a done deal and
Nelson will be appearing, although there are no details on what role he would play. Maybe Jay and Bob finally make it to Shermer, Illinois and run into an all grown up version of Bender. Here's hoping for that one.

Phone Booth casting

December 15, 2000

Source: Fetal Films

The always adorable Katie Holmes, soon to be seen (and I mean seeeeen) in Sam Raimi's THE GIFT, has joined the cast of the always disappointing Joel Schumacher's PHONE BOOTH. Katie joins Colin Farrell and the just added Ron Eldard (MYSTERY, ALASKA), Radha Mitchell (PITCH BLACK), and Tia Texada (BAIT). Ray Liotta was also expected to join the cast but this has not yet been confirmed.

Will Smith plays Misty

December 15, 2000

Source: Cinescape

Will Smith's production company Overbrook Entertainment is planning a modernization of the Clint Eastwood classic, PLAY MISTY FOR ME. The original movie revolved around a radio DJ who finds himself stalked by a fan he had an affair with. The update will involve a man who returns to his high school reunion and has a one night stand with a woman who has some "attachment issues." The FATAL ATTRACTION-esque project is to be put on the
fast-track as soon as the strikes are resolved.

Planet of the Apes poster

December 14, 2000

Source: Dark Horizons

Dark Horizons is continuing to kick ass in the poster department this week. Adding to their HARRY POTTER poster they snagged on Wednesday, they add today a copy of the teaser poster for Tim Burton's PLANET OF THE APES.  It's not the greatest scan in the world, but just look at that ape.  Boy, they weren't kidding when they said they were going for a whole new look.  I also like the new tagline of "Rule the Planet."  Hopefully we can get a better looking image sometime soon...

Mary Jane Watson cast & New Spider-Man teaser!!!

December 13, 2000

Source: Sony and French Premiere

An official e-mail from the folks at Sony has confirmed that Kirsten Dunst (BRING IT ON, VIRGIN SUICIDES) will play opposite Tobey Maguire as Mary Jane Watson in 2002's SPIDER-MAN.  The news is expected to hit the trades on Thursday morning. I wonder what Alicia Witt got as a conciliation prize?

Also, the French Premiere movie site was able to snatch yet another big coup in the world of movies today. Check out the first official SPIDER-MAN teaser trailer below (various sizes):

Harry Potter poster

December 13, 2000

Source: Dark Horizons

Dark Horizons scored a great scoop Wednesday morning with the first look at the teaser poster for HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE. It's a pretty neat image, one which should stir up a lot of buzz in the movie theaters. If you look closely at the poster, you will notice it says HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER'S STONE, instead of Sorceror's Stone. It looks as if the movie will be called Sorcerer's Stone in the U.S. and Philosopher's Stone everywhere else, much like the book's titles.

Spiderman pre-production news

December 13, 2000

Source: Film Force

Film Force has posted quite an interesting article detailing, among other things, some of the CGI tests that have taken place during the pre-production stage for the SPIDER-MAN movie. The article discusses how Cirque du Soleil acrobats are being used, how Spidey will express emotion through his mask, how a completely CGI Spider-Man fooled the suits at Sony, and a possible outline for the teaser poster. There's way too much detail to try to list here, so I would recommend getting your butts over there (as soon as you're done here) and reading it for yourself.

Alexander the Great movie

December 13, 2000

Source: Variety

Christopher McQuarrie apparently wasn't slowed down by the disappointing box office returns for THE WAY OF THE GUN. His next feature will be an $85 million dollar epic, entitled ALEXANDER THE GREAT, which will chronicle the
life and times of...Alexander the Great.  McQuarrie, who won an Academy Award for his USUAL SUSPECTS screenplay, has been fascinated with the compelling life of Alexander the Great for some time and had originally
wanted to make this his directorial debut.  He will now get the chance to give this movie the treatment it deserves when it goes before cameras as soon as the actors'/writers' strikes have been settled.

But where's George Clooney?

December 13, 2000

Source: Hollywood Reporter

Mark Wahlberg and Thandie Newton have signed on to star in THE TRUTH ABOUT CHARLIE, where they would take on roles previously played by Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn in 1963's CHARADE. Jonathan (SILENCE OF THE LAMBS) Demme will direct and has co-written the script for the upcoming thriller. Wahlberg had originally been considering joining Robert Redford in THE CASTLE, but both pictures are expected to shoot at the same time, forcing Marky to drop out. CHARLIE revolves around a woman (Newton) who's being pursued by several strangers that seem very interested in the fortune her murdered husband has left behind.

Matrix 2 Script Review?

December 12, 2000

Source: Coming Attractions

Coming Attractions received a scoop from a person who claims to know someone who has read the script for the MATRIX 2.  I know that sounds pretty convoluted (and it just may be, as it has yet to be confirmed) but CA says the info jives with some of the info they have confirmed as being true. It's pretty spoiler heavy material, but if you're dying to know what may be happening, check it out here:

Men in Black Sequel films in June

December 12, 2000

Source: Inside.com

Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones will begin filming the sequel to MEN IN BLACK this June to avoid the potential actors strike.  Both Smith and Jones were reluctant to return but a great script combined with more than generous
back-end deals have convinced them.  Reports are that Will Smith will make 20 percent and Tommy Lee Jones 12.5 percent of the film's final grosses.  It is also reported that when Sony (who also owns MEN IN BLACK) was negotiating with Michael Mann regarding ALI, they were adamant that Will Smith must be done with his work at a certain date, so that MIB:2 filming can begin as soon as possible.

Myers makes Dangerous Move

December 12, 2000

Source: Variety

In quite a bizarre move that has left many a people with confused looks on their faces, Mike Myers has pulled out of Bryan Singer's CONFESSIONS OF A DANGEROUS MIND to pursue other "projects."  Which projects haven't been made entirely clear, but it is believed to be the Ivan Reitman remake of THE PINK PANTHER.  Why he would leave a movie written by one of the most original screenwriters to do what another brilliant comedian has done before is
beyond me.  This was Mike Myers' big chance to do something wholly original and funny but he has vacated the role, leaving it for Ben Stiller or John Cusack, who both have expressed interest.

Jim Carrey's Next

December 11, 2000

Source: Fetal Films Report

The Jim Carrey/Frank Darabont flick THE BIJOU is going into production on March 1 and in doing so avoiding any threat of the impending strike. In the movie, Carrey plays a blacklisted screenwriter, who is injured in a car
crash, suffers from amnesia and hilarity ensues. Darabont says of Carrey's recent performance in THE GRINCH, that in his movie, you'll see the Jim you've come to know and love. "He'll be the usual, handsome fellow that he
is." Doesn't sound too hot a premise, but after THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, I'd watch Frank Darabont's home movies.

Michelle Yeoh in Indy 4

December 11, 2000

Source: Movie Headlines

Michelle Yeoh (currently in CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON and previously in SUPERCOP) has been approached by Steven Spielberg to play a role in the on-again/off-again fourth installment in the INDIANA JONES series. There is currently no plot, complete script or cast yet (although Harrison Ford and Sean Connery are expected to reprise their roles), but when interviewed for Entertainment Tonight's Special Feature on Indiana Jones, she said she was excited to be considered for a role in the movie. Things sure look like they are heating up and one can only hope, hope, hope that this all comes into fruition.

Another Sandler flick?

December 11, 2000

Source: Aint it Cool News and Empire Online

Despite the report you read here a few days ago that Adam Sandler was to make his next movie DEEDS, it seems he is still committed to joining the cast of Paul Thomas Anderson's upcoming comedy. While speaking with Empire
Online, Philip Seymour Hoffman said he would be joining the comedy (Philip Seymour Hoffman in a PT Anderson movie?? What's next, Sam Jackson in a Quentin Tarantino movie?) while Sandler and Emily Watson had already been cast. I'm still getting over the fact that the guy who made BOOGIE NIGHTS wants to work with the guy who made LITTLE NICKY.
