Let's just assume for a second that we live in a world where people need to be reassured that the sheer ridiculousness that happens in a Roland Emmerich movie couldn't actually happen in real life. Oh wait, we DO live in that world? Yes, NASA has issued a FAQ based on 2012 to assure Americans that December 12, 2012 "won't be the end of the world." One such exchange goes a little something like this:
Q: Are there any threats to the Earth in 2012? Many Internet websites say the world will end in December 2012.
A: Nothing bad will happen to the Earth in 2012.
I might say that anyone who actually believes the world is going to end in 2012 probably won't be swayed by the "rational" and "scientific" explanations provided by NASA as to why our world won't suddenly end but they give it the ole college try. The doomsday scenario for 2012 was initially 2003 but when nothing happened they moved the date back.
