New Watchmen trailer! Nov. 13, 2008
Source: Yahoo!   by: Mike Sampson

The new WATCHMEN trailer is here. Where we've been teased before with teaser trailers and Comic-Con footage and Scream Awards clips, this is the real deal. I'm not sure if we'll get another trailer before WATCHMEN hits theaters in March but this is about as close to a full trailer as I can imagine. And man is it good. While I've been critical of some of the artwork for the film, the visuals are all absolutely astounding. The acting is top-notch, the attention to detail is incredible, the effects are breathtaking... I think you'll just have to watch this one for yourself. Check it out below or head to Yahoo! Movies to see it in HD.

"Corrupt, you're corrupt

Bring corruption to all that you touch

Behold, you'll behold

And behold them for all that you've done

And Spell, cast a spell

Cast a spell on the country you run

And risk, you will risk

You will risk all the lives and their
souls

And burn, you will burn

You will burn in hell

Yeah you'll burn in hell

You'll burn in hell

Yeah you'll burn in hell

For your sins

Now freedoms concealing itself

What we've become

Is contrary to what we want

Take a bow

Death, you bring death

And destruction to all that you touch

Pay, you must pay

You must pay for your crimes against
the earth

Hate, feed the hate

Feed the hate of the country you love

And beg, you will beg

You will beg for the lives and their
souls

And burn, you will burn

You will burn in hell

Yeah you'll burn in hell

You'll burn in hell

Yeah you'll burn in hell

Burn in hell

Yeah you'll burn in hell

For your sins"

Those are the lyrics to Muse's utterly fantastic and epic "Take a Bow," which is not only makes for a nice touch in this new trailer but also fits the Watchmen universe quite well. The song is about corruption, the failure of leaders (past or present), and the numerous sins committed by leaders, dictators, rulers, etc. I would argue that Muse's "Take a Bow" is a superior song selection than the Smashing Pumpkins' "The Beginning is the End is the Beginning."

As for the trailer, it was fantastic, and I look forward to seeing it on the big screen. I seriously hope "Watchmen" is a fucking brilliant film, because after these trailers and the exclusive Comic-Con footage, my anticipation is through the roof now.

March cannot come soon enough.

HMMM...
Don't let the black frame of this post fool you... I'll be there on opening fucking day to see this movie, but this trailer left me a little cold. It was great seeing new footage and everything, but after the first two trailers this one was a bit of a letdown. Maybe it was the soundtrack that made the difference (I love Muse, but the use of that Pumpkins track in the first two was a fuckin' masterstroke.)

I didn't see this at the QoS screening I went to tonight either. They did show Star Trek though... Which started out like some godawful fuckin' toy commercial... But it picked up pretty quickly.

CAN ANYBODY TELL ME...
...if they've seen this in theaters yet? I'm resolved to resist the urge and not watch this until I can see it on the big screen (as I did with the first trailer). I was pumped to go see Quantum of Solace last night because I thought they'd show the trailer for sure, but they didn't. Is my theater just lame or was this not attached to Quantum after all? (There's two other theaters in my city and I'm seriously debating whether or not to take in a showing of Quantum at each of them to see if either of them are playing this).

Regarding the slow motion in Zack Snyder's films, I had read somewhere that there is actually a way that it could be considered a creative decision. The comment mentioned how it could be an attempt to capture the freeze frame nature of the comic books. The art in comic books are essentially captures of moments, and a film can do this by slowing down a scene, making it almost like a frame in the comic book. I think that works when used sparingly, like on moments of impact (the Comedian being thrown out the window and the fight preceding it); it can also be used to kind of capture an important moment, which is what the art in comic books do. Of course, it can be annoying when overusing it, and I can't say this was Zack Snyder's reason, but if used only on moments that the director wants to emphasize, like a comic book artist would, there can be a creative purpose for it. Whatever the case, this does look good. Hopefully it won't get caught up on what essentially is, when overused, an annoying gimmick.

Looks like Snyder lied with the early screenings and put the squid in there :)

... toes made some interesting points for those who read the comic. Looks like there are gonna be some deviations from the comic .... or maybe it's only to fool the fans? We'll see, keeping my fingers crossed for the best.

@toes

Laurie doesn't necessarily believe Jon can do what he says he can. Or she doesn't want to seem like she does, anyway. His capabilities *are* pretty nuts.

Muse music is misplaced and cut awkwardly, other than that it looks ok-ish. I have an inkling that Malin Ackerman cannot pull of the emotional intensity necessary for her role as Laurie. And the guy they got for Veidt looks pretty bad.

Also, Rorschach's voice sounds like Christian Bale's 'I Gargled Acid' voice in the Batman movies.
