No Megatron in TF2?

JoBlo.com reader "mayhem23" got himself a copy of Empire's new 2009 preview issue and saw some pretty interesting comments from director Michael Bay in the section about TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN. [There may be some SPOILERS ahead so I'll warn you now...] Most significant perhaps is that Bay "emphatically" insists there will be no Megatron in TRANSFORMERS 2. Says Bay, "He's not in this movie. That's not misinformation. The tank design you may have seen is just Hasbro coming up with a new toy." Interesting. Of course Bay could be yanking all our chains but that's a long way to go for throwing us off course.

Bay also gives some context to the scene shown here. That is John Turturro being chazed up the side of a pyramid by a giant Transformer. Devastator. "Imagine six or seven or eight massive earth-moving vehicles, with tires as big as that tree," says Bay. "It's going to be gigantic."

So what do you think? Do you believe Bay? Do you really think there will be no Megatron in TRANSFORMERS 2 and that The Fallen will be the sole villain?

There will be a fat guy eating donuts in this one too, right? Because that's what we need in a Transformers movie. Michael Bay has it all figured out. Yeah, who wants to see giant robots anyway? More donut eating scenes.

anyyway...man i think ben button will win oscar for best pic. as much as i loved TDK...i think button should get it...it'll be an interesting night that's for sure.

People who don't like Michael Bay need to just stop complaining about his films and just not bother to see his films in general. Instead of wasting their time making comments about the guys track record. Transformers was a fun and entertaining film, it deserves a sequel.

This film needs to bomb so Hollywood can finally learn that big, clunky action scenes strung together, no matter how stylish and expensive, can never cover for weak writing and silly plot points.

Not that I particularly care (aside from, if they went so far as getting Hugo Weaving to voice the guy, kill him off so soon?) but remember when Bay talked about misinformation?

Megatron might not appear but who knows, maybe we'll get Galvatron. In the animated flick Megatron's metamorphosis was performed via Unicron, and I thought that Unicron was an avatar of the Fallen or something like that.

I'm jazzed to see what they do with Devastator though.

Bay also said Optimus Prime's scene in the first one where you first see his "lips" was just a screen test and wouldn't be appearing in the final cut of the movie. This is just another bit of info that got out and he's trying to cover it up or misdirect you.

maybe Megatron has evolved into something new, like in the original cartoon.. kinda makes sense considering how he was "destroyed" with the allspark.

I read somewhere that at some stage in the movie the Autobots and Megatron had to combine their efforts to defeat the fallen, so perhaps Megatron only has a cameo? Who knows?

Besides, im super stoked for this.

They could have Megatron turn up at the end, just dancing to Journeys "Anyway you want it" and id be happy.
