No more Star Wars? May. 26, 2007
Source: Movieweb.com
by: JoBlo

It was the 30th anniversary of the beginning of the STAR WARS franchise a few days ago, and the rumors were rampant about a possible "2 more movies" being announced. The good folks at Movieweb got to the bottom of it all though, and as it turns out, there will be 2 more additions to the Lucas franchise, but both will be shown on TV, and according to head of Lucas Fan Film Relations: "There are going to be two more Star Wars television series. One of them is well into production. That is "Star Wars: Clone Wars". It's a CG animated show, which we suspect will be on the air sometime next year. And then George and Rick McCullen were just now starting work on a live action series. A drama. That will probably be coming out in 2009 or 2010. He is actively at work on both of those. But the CG animated series is more adult. It has a lot of humor in it. It is very cinematic. We will be talking about that for the first time at the celebration."

Despite my own distain for Lucas' sales practices, I'm like most of you (see our most recent STAR WARS poll HERE) in that I would actually LOVE to see more STAR WARS movies, particularly if we can get more creative and passionate people involved (yeah, let Lucas take a back-seat next time). You can read the rest of their interview HERE.

Extra Tidbit: George Lucas' nickname in high school was Luke. Get it? Luke. As in Luke Skywalker.

The original trilogy was one of the best of all time and the original, A New Hope, influenced so many other directors and changed the face of filmmaking as we know it. Granted, you can see where Lucas started going loopy when the Ewoks arrived and got worse with Gungans and most of the prequels, but you cannot deny what the man did for film.

I'll definitely watch the series to at least see if the creative teams behind them can keep him at arms' length. It's been stated by Lucas himself many times that he will never do any more movies after the original trilogy, due to the fact that it would either A)Interfere with and rewrite the universe as it stands with the various books that he approved in the past or B)He'd have to create stories that follow the stories made by said books.

As stated by others, I'd love to see some of the stories set in the far past, since there's plenty of basic info to build from and a huge amount of leeway for creativity.

PLEASE FORGIVE AN OLD MAN
a senior moment. I meant Joseph Campbell, of course. Either way, both authors have a lot more substance than Lucas and his Star Wars franchise. But as I've always confessed, Lucas still manages to get some of my money.

WE NEED A NEW EWOKS TV MOVIE
If they go CG, they need to go with the guys that made Reboot. Reboot was the best CG cartoon show, everything else paled in comparision.

CGI shows never hold up. They should do regular 2D animation like the Clone Wars series on Cartoon Network. Either way, I'll check it out.

And more movies would be sweet. It is no longer a sacred trilogy and the new ones were crap enough that might as well just turn it into a series like Star Trek, though without following the same cast for extended periods of time.

Okay, when I voted in that poll, I was only talking movies, but a live-action series? So long as it's up to par with the movies effects-wise, I'm on board for that shit. Just don't....you know....include Luke and company, cause that would be awkward. Make it maybe with an adult Jaina and Jacen, or something where Luke and co. are dead for a few decades.

I'd love to see movies dating back to the Old Republic, when the Jedi were facing off against the Sith and being beaten to the point of extinction. (KOTR fans will know what I'm talking about).

That and movies based on the New Jedi Order series. Those books were kick ass!

Yeah Right. Whatever crap you say now....I know for a fact all of you will be glued to the screen at the premiere. Anybody who's on this site will be wearing diapers so they don't have to get up during the show.
I personally will watch anything that has "Star wars" in it. Can't wait.
